Text Message Crashing Apple iPhones – Here’s  the fix!

The original article can be found here : http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/this-single-text-message-is-crashing-people-s-iphones-here-s-the-fix-1295019

This is not written by me but seems to be serious enough that it deserves a share!

This single text message is crashing people’s iPhones.

A new bug is a massive pain in the iMessage

Apple’s iMessage platform has been subject of a new bug that shuts down your entire iPhone after receiving the message “effective. Power لُلُصّبُلُلصّبُررً ॣ ॣh ॣ ॣ 冗”.

The second half is Arabic and if you’re not currently in the iMessage with a person it’ll send your phone into a reboot no matter what it’s doing – it’s proved very frustrating for some users and it’s not certain what the long term effects are.

Here’s the fix: head into your Settings app, then the Notifications tab, Messages and then switch off the slider called “show on local screen and under “alert style when unlocked” choose “none”.

It’s a pretty simple fix but it means if you’re sent any more pesky iMessages you’re not going to be sent into the reboot again.

Over and over

We contacted Apple for some comment on the matter and the response suggested Apple can’t see the problem on their end, but that’s apparently not the case for many people who have taken to the internet to confirm the bug,.
Hundreds of forum users are reporting the issue. JoeyTheBoey on Reddit said, “I have an un jailbroken iPhone 6 and it resprings my phone, but only if I’m not in the messages app, then it will show the message notification badge when I get back in.”

Jjc123cj on Reddit said, “Don’t test this on your iPhone 6! I sent it to myself and now my messaging app crashes when I try to open it ):”

Apple News on Twitter has spoken to Apple’s Senior Engineers who admitted they know there is a problem. and are hard at work trying to fix it.

#WaWIn1Week – Wild Atlantic Way in 1 Week – Coming Very Soon!

Wild Atlantic Way

I will be commencing my Wild Atlantic Way trip hopefully within a month. As long as the weather looks good I will be aiming to do the 2500km road trip in seven days on a motorcycle with no plans in place.

No B&Bs booked. No hotels. No plan!

I will be using the hashtag #WaWIn1Week so follow that as I will be live tweeting throughout the journey.

16/05/2015 NW200 Saturday Race Day

NW200 16/05/2015 Saturday Racing

After a great Thursday night racing and the weather being exceptionally kind, Saturday rolled up. When I left the house it was glorious! So sunny it was almost hazy. I had to stop half way there to put my waterproofs on as it looked like it was going to chuck it down, and by the time I arrived although it hadn’t rained it looked like it was going to, big time! It was dark and there was some proper big ass black clouds floating menacingly over head. It did not take long for them to burst! And so began the theme for the day, sunny, windy, cloudy, raining, heavy ass raining, sunny, warm, windy, cloudy… and repeat!

The first race of the day had to be cancelled after a couple of restarts but from about 1.30 -2.00PM we did get some more continuous according to plan racing, it even looked like, for a short while, that the road closure contingencies would be used to get the final race in however as the winds had picked up again the riders and management decided against that.

So all in all it was a great days racing and thankfully, ultimately no one was fatally injured. A rider was critically injured as was a spectator when a bike left the track and hit her in a garden, a tragic freak accident, however thankfully and mercifully all involved and injured people are now well on the mend, and all are expected to make a full recovery.

See you next year! Onto the TT!

14/05/2015 NW200 Thursday Night Race Night!

With Thursday now being the 1st Official Race Night of the NW200 I am happy to bring you the official results and the a nice photo gallery of some of the action from the Juniper Hill Chicane near Portstewart.  This is a decent vantage point for taking some decent photographs as the bikes are well slowed down for reaching the chicane, something the riders aren’t to fond off! Guy Martin for example started a bit of controversy for being ‘Bored to the back teeth!’

Unfortunately tonight we only got two of the three races completed, a red flag halted the 3rd race, thankfully no one was injured badly, however following consultation with the riders a low evening sun (as pictured), and time constraints meant the third and final race could not be run and was postponed until Saturday’s racing.

Sony PS4 20th Anniversary Competition Not run Fairly…Official!

Sony PS4 20th Anniversary Edition Competition Fails

I have previously posted on the Sony UK 20th Anniversary Compeition and how shockingly poor it was run by Game Ltd and Sony UK…

https://tbni.blog/2014/12/24/sony-game-playstation-make-a-right-balls-up-of-uk-ps4-20th-anniversary-competition-2/

Today the complaints made to the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) have been made public and the news has made some big articles…

http://www.engadget.com/2015/05/13/sony-20th-anniversary-ps4-compeition-unfair/?ncid=rss_truncated

I would like to thank the ASA for conducting a thorough and fair investigation and ultimately making the right finding, although I am not overly confident in Sony’s / Games version of events.  I welcome any comment from them!

I tried throughout numerous times to speak to them and never once was given the courtesy of an answer, and as a gamer for about 25 years I feel that they treated me and every other gamer like me unfairly and didn’t have the ‘balls’ to apologise to us for it.  Shame on you both for this, and shame on you both for failing to recognise it.

You can find the ASA ruling here : http://asa.org.uk/Rulings/Adjudications/2015/5/Sony-Computer-Entertainment-UK-Ltd/SHP_ADJ_290175.aspx#.VVPWy2AfsqY

Unboxing : Tech21 Special Ops Combat Case

Tech21 Special Ops Combat case for iPhone 5

I was just going through some old folders and found a few unboxing of products that I didn’t get publishing.  Time moved on, my tech moved on and these products got forgot about.

However some of these products do need a little bit of showcasing.  The first one I will upload is a tough case for the iPhone 5. It is the Tech21 Special Ops Combat case.  Tech21 do a full range of cases from the reasonably subtle right up to this one.

This case utilises 3DO – a great product that takes the bang out of impacts and in doing so should protect your gear fantastically well.  Of course this case is big and bulky, but it is protective.  It has a built in screen shield so if you already have a screen guard installed it may well cause water marking.  That is the only issue I experienced with this case, but I would class it as a direct competitor to the Otterbox Defender and Griffin Survivor Range and if you keep your eyes out you can pick this case up now at a fraction of its original £49.99 retail price!

I was hugely impressed by this case, so much so that this was the final case I put my iPhone 5 in before upgrading and it remained in it for a couple of months.
