My Mous collection continues to grow!

Disclosure : I purchased this Mous Limitless iPhone X Leather Case direct from Amazon the review is my own as are my thoughts on the product.

One year ago (to the very day) I posted my first review on my first Mous product – the Limitless 2.0 Carbon Fibre Case for the iPhone X : Mous Limitless iPhone X Case (Carbon Fibre) Unboxing & Review

From there in March 2018 I bought the leather folio case and card wallet, of which you can read my thoughts here : Mous iPhone X Accessories Unboxing and Review

Then in September 2018 I added the Mous Limitless 2.0 Leather iPhone X Case to my collection and you can read about that one here : Mous Limitless 2.0 Leather iPhone X Case Unboxing & Review

So a year later and I got my third Mous Limitless 2.0 case this time deciding to go for the real wood (Walnut) finish.  So a year and three cases later then surely Mous must be doing something right, right?  Right!

Apple Music on an Amazon Echo from 17th December 2018

The great news Apple & Amazon Echo / Alexa users have wanted for what seems like eternity has arrived!

As an Apple Music subscriber, a HomePod user, and having an Echo, numerous Echo Dots and an Echo Spot splattered about the house, all I can say is ‘Finally!’

Apple and Amazon have just announced that Apple Music will launch on Echo devices beginning the week of December 17.  In a blog post, Amazon explains that Apple Music subscribers will be able to ask Alexa to play their favorite songs, artist, playlists, Beats1 radio stations, and albums, all through an Echo speaker.

One example they give is the command, “Alexa, play Bebe Rexha on Apple Music.”

The integration will launch as an Apple Music skill that will need to be enabled within the Alexa app, where users will also be able to link their account to start listening to Apple Music on an Echo speaker. Apple Music will join the ranks of a few other music streaming services already supported on Echo, including Spotify, iHeartRadio, and Pandora.

BaseQi SD Card Adapter Speed Test for MacBook Pro

The MacBook Pro :

As the owner of a MacBook Pro (which is an amazing bit of kit) I fall victim to the same downfall as most owners – the small internal SSD.  My MBP holds a mere 128Gb of internal built in storage.

Now that 128Gb storage is almost instant access – being a quick SSD.  When paired up with 8Gb of RAM and the 2.7GHz i5 machine it really is a very capable bit of kit – in fact most of this blog, associated photos and media all stem from this very machine.

But let’s be honest 128Gb is not enough.

But let’s be even more honest.  It isn’t a huge deal either.  With portable options now readily available, you can easily get 4TB in your pocket, 400Gb SD Cards are becoming more affordable £ / $ per Gb and you can even get super fast tiny and portable SSD drives which are amazing for rending video and other demanding tasks.

SanDisk 200Gb Micro SD Card

Personally I have always opted for a connected portable hard drive.  My drive of choice at the moment being a USB 3.0 2TB Seagate drive.  It is quick (as you will soon see), it is small, and it is plug and play.  I have the majority of my apps on it, all my games and store images on it that I won’t be using immediately.

I keep it pretty clutter free and it means my storage issues – aren’t issues.

As far as SD cards go I always (from habit more than anything else) use a USB 3.0 card reader.  (The one I use is from Anker).  It means I can just pop the card out of my camera / GoPro / drone… whatever and have the media transferred quickly and hassle free on my terms.  I don’t like plugging in a device and having it tell me what image importer to use, or what editor, so with the Card Reader I import and use as I please.

If I am editing photos / video on the go I import them onto the Mac’s SSD, do what I need to do, then upload them or store them on the portable drive.  It is no doubt easier and quicker to run on the SSD, and it means if I am mobile I don’t need to worry about the portable drive and where to set it.  But then you reach the limiting factor of the maximum available space.

Mous Limitless 2.0 Leather iPhone X Case Unboxing & Review

With this case I expand my Mous.co collection.  This time with the Mous Limitless 2.0 Leather iPhone X Case.

If you are a follower of this blog you will know that this is not my first mous.co case.  You will also know that I am a fan of their gear.  If you don’t you can read my review of the carbon fibre case and a few of the accessories here :

Rather than just regurgitate what I have already written about the Mous.co Carbon Fibre case please take a few moments and have a quick read of it.

The first comment I made in that review was about a missed shipping date and how this is only to be expected with cloud funding – glitches happen etc etc.  That point is no longer relevant.  We are now no longer in the cloud funding world, we are now buying off a well established business.  Shipping time was a couple of days and as you would now expect I had the case within the week.

Things continue in this positive direction…

Apple iPhone Xs / XR Wallpapers

iPhone XR Wallpaper Sample

With the arrival of iOS12 just mere hours away and the first deliveries of the iPhone Xs series less than a week away you could well be one of the lucky ones upgrading to the latest iDevice.

If, like me, you may not be planning to upgrade on this cycle – you may well like the idea of a facelift for your current phone and no better way to do that than the latest wallpaper.

Apple are renowned for their gorgeous wallpapers and this refresh is no different.  The wallpapers for the new iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max are beautiful.  There is some dispute as to what the wallpapers actually depict, some claim they represent planetary surfaces, others that they are bubbles – the patterns coming from an oil type effect on the surface of said bubbles.  The latter being the theory that I am going for.

But it doesn’t stop there.  Of course the latest flagship iPhone is causing a lot of buzz on the tech front but what seems to be causing even more at the moment is the newly announced iPhone XR – the more modestly priced, LCD screened, single camera’d, and multi coloured iPhone XR.  With it comes a whole range of wallpapers each designed around the base colour of an iPhone XR.  These follow the same bubble theme and come with a single or double bubble variant.

So without further ado read on to see all the wallpapers that will be coming with the new range of iPhones and download your favourite.  All the images are full resolution so will work beautifully on whatever phone you currently use – your facelift awaits…

Mous iPhone X Accessories Unboxing and Review

Mous Limitless Accessories :

Disclosure : I purchased these Mous Limitless iPhone X Accessories direct from Mous.co the review is my own as are my thoughts on the product.

I have previously posted a review on the Mous Limitless Case 2.0 for iPhone X – you can find that review right here : Mous Limitless iPhone X Case (Carbon Fibre) Unboxing & Review

I am still currently using that very case and have been since writing the review.  I am still hugely impressed by it along with its build quality and durability.  No doubt it was expensive at the time but it still looks as new and despite being used daily there isn’t a mark on it.

Mous Limitless iPhone X Case (Carbon Fibre) Unboxing & Review

Disclosure : I purchased this Mous Limitless iPhone X Case direct from Mous.co for £43.95 (GBP) Delivered, the review is my own as are my thoughts on the product. Like me you may have seen the Sponsored Adverts on Facebook or some other social media for a company called Mous. Mous make phone cases and have a few under their belt already (from iPhone 6 to iPhone X as well as the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus). The Limitless case that this review refers to was funded via crowd funding. Their indigogo campaign almost raised $2.5 million : https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/protective-iphone-x-and-8-cases-mous-limitless#/

The advert that caught my attention was one outside the Apple Store in London where they went in and purchased an iPhone X on release day, popped it in their case, walked outside and chucked it up in the air. This all being done right in front of a crowd of Apple fans looking to go in and buy the very phone that was now taking a live flying lesson with a combined drop test onto the concrete right in front of their own eyes.

That’s a ballsy move and on watching how the case coped with drop after drop and even being offered to the public to have a go my mind was made up. The order was placed with an expected shipping date of 21st November 2017.

iPhone X : A Week Later

iPhone X - 3rd November 2017
iPhone X – 3rd November 2017

Rather than do an unboxing video or solo gallery of the new iPhone X I have decided to combine a gallery with my initial thoughts and a very short term review.

I have had the iPhone X a week, having been lucky enough to get one on release day (3rd November 2017), and I’ll be straight up – I am impressed.

I’ll also be honest – it is damned expensive!  A 256 GB model will set you back £1149 and if you want AppleCare it’s another £199 – so thats £1348 for a phone with 2 years piece of mind!  If you dont want piece of mind just throw your eyes over this repair price list – it may (or may not) sway your decision on AppleCare.  Personally I get AppleCare on all my Apple devices – (something I have never actually had reason to use) whether you do or not is obviously a personal choice however at these prices some sort of insurance seems like a no-brainer.
