PlayStation Classic : Confirmed Games List

PlayStation Classic
PlayStation Classic

Sony have announced the 20 games that will be preloaded on the upcoming PlayStation Classic (which some outlets are referring to as the PlayStation Mini).

A few points to note :

– The PlayStation Classic will release on 3rd December 2018 – the 24th anniversary of the original PlayStation.

– The PlayStation Classic will not work with controllers not supplied with the unit – so your DualShock 4 isn’t going to work.  The unit will ship with two controllers that should work and feel like the originals – but that is your only control option.

– The PlayStation Classic will not be getting more games in the future – so no downloads, no addons, no Minis – what you get on the machine is your lot.

“There are no plans to bring new content to PlayStation Classic post-launch.” – Sony

– The PlayStation Classic has a built in ‘virtual’ memory card – so you will be able to save your games.

– The PlayStation Classic will connect to your TV via HDMI.

The games listing has brought some controversy, personally I think it looks OK, there are plenty of Classic games in there.  Unfortunately there are some questionable releases as well.  I could make a list of dozens of games under the ‘What About…’ title but that’s futile, the list is out and the debate over what is more deserving is an absolute matter of opinion, of which we are all entitled.

We have got what we have got.  The biggest question then is – ‘Do you feel this is worth eight of your hard earned pound coins?’

So here we go – here is the long awaited list of games coming to the PlayStation Classic :

Playstation 4 Pro 500 Million Limited Edition Pre-Order Problems : Do NOT Buy from the eBay Scalpers!

Say NO to the eBay Scalpers. It is the only way to beat them.
Say NO to the eBay Scalpers. It is the only way to beat them.

Playstation 4 Pro 500 Million Limited Edition Pre-Order Problems: If you are a keen gamer there is a good chance you found yourself in the position hundreds of us found ourselves yesterday and today.  That is without a Sony Playstation 4 Pro 500 Million Limited Edition Console.

  • What is a Sony Playstation 4 Pro 500 Million Limited Edition?

Basically it is a special edition Playstation 4 Pro that celebrates the fact that Sony have now sold 500,000,000 Playstation consoles.  They have limited this edition to a mere 50,000 units globally making it actually pretty limited.  Limited of course means desirable to gamers, and unfortunately desirable to gamers means desirable to scalpers, or as I will refer to them from this point onwards – scumbags.

  • What’s so special about it?

To be honest thats a difficult question.  You can regularly and easily pick up a PS4 Pro for about £300 in a bundle.  This edition is £450, but comes with a camera, an upgraded 2TB hard drive and is housed in an awesome looking translucent blue case, each one individually numbered.  If you don’t understand the appeal then this probably isn’t the article for you and you’d be best just moving on to the next one.  If you do get it, or at least think you get it, have a look at this – I’m sure you will agree it is special!

How to Download and Store PS4 Games & Apps to an External Hard Drive

With the release of firmware 4.5 for the Playstation 4, we, the gamers, now have a feature we have craved for a long time… the ability to download and store our games on an external hard drive.  This means we now can keep our libraries intact and not have to worry abput what to delete or replace as our collection grows past the capacity of the built in storage.

Yay!

Minimum HDD spec

The most important thing to remember before you buy a new storage device – or try to use one you already own – is to make sure it meets the minimum requirements for use with your PS4:

Connection: USB 3.0 or later

Storage: 250GB (min) – 8TB (max)

Note: There is no guarantee that all USB storage devices are compatible with your system.

PlayStation Mobile Store Set to Close July 2015 :

Playstation Mobile Set to Close @015

PlayStation Mobile is/was a store for the PS Vita certain Android smartphones, which enabled the purchase and download of indie games and some PlayStation classics. Unfortunately in July 2015, Sony will completely close this service down. Playstation Mobile came to being in October 2012.

Sony has stated that as of September 10th, previously purchased games won’t be able to be downloaded again.

You will however still be able to play games you have downloaded as long as you activate your device. Details on how to Activate can be found on the Sony Website here : PlayStation website.

It’s believed that the shutdown is due to a poor adoption rate, and comes as no real shock as Sony dropped support for Android phones running 4.4.3 or newer in 2014.

The good news is Remote Play will be unaffected and PS Vita owners will still be able to mirror PS4 games when connected to the same network.

Looking further into this is seems this only affects the Playstation Mobile Stores – the store focused on Indie Games and PS Classics, so hopefully the full PS Store will continue to support new PS Vita games and the downloading of them! Hopefully?!?

Sony / Game / Playstation Make a Right Balls Up of UK PS4 20th Anniversary ‘Competition’

Although this blog is now officially closed it is still getting a huge volume of hits and traffic so I have shared this here also…

View it in its new home here : http://tbni.co.uk/?p=1496

If you follow my twitter feed or Sony / Playstation or Game UK you will no doubt have seen the fury spread across the internet of foul play, cheating, link sharing and as Sony as so very prone too, hacking! #4thePlayers #notfortheplayers #forthecheats

On 15-19 December 2014 Playstation UK and Game UK ran a competition that meant the first 100 correct entries to this competition got a opportunity to purchase – at full price (£399) – a 20th Anniversary Edition of the console.  One of only 13,500 globally, so a very rare item indeed.  Well at least that was their plan until link sharing, web site crashing, cheating and hacking took over and left the genuine gamer with no chance whatsoever of bagging one of these much sought after machines.

Allegations flew but facts remain, users (cheaters) ended up with multiple consoles…

You will see from the screen grabs above that this user even claims to be a genuine gamer, but is so very kindly prepared to accepted £3000 for a console (but yet they mean so much to him and he is so blessed) yet towards the end of his posting he is getting rather abusive and showing his true colours!

10 Second Game Review : Wolfenstein ; The New Order

I only ever do my 10SGR when I have actually completed the game. For Wolfenstein I am a little behind due to playing other games and to be honest had I not had a little extra time off from work I may well have missed out on this game, which following its completion, I now know would have been a travesty.

The time span is 1946 World War 2, the Nazis are winning, the War Machine consisting of robots, evil doctors, sadism and really vicious dogs is ripping through the world at an alarming pace. You, our hero B.J. Blazkowicz, are fighting to make the difference.

However a horrific head injury sees you hospital bound, destined to never wake up, where you are cared for daily by the beautiful Anya and her family.

14 years later a sequence of events will waken you to a world you don’t recognise. The war is over and global Nazi domination has occurred. For you the resistance now starts. You team up with a small band of Resistance fighters and time to take it to the Nazi horde begins!

Now for the game itself. First person shooters are everywhere. However Wolfenstein has history. Proper history. A big back bone of being amongst the first. For me it is a shame that more hasn’t been done with the series in PS3 / 360 genres. But as a PS4 title I happily welcome it into my collection.

This isn’t a solely next gen title and it shows. It still looks magnificent, it’s hard to explain but it doesn’t look completely next gen. What properly sets Wolfenstein aside from the countless other shooters though is its story. This is a proper story driven game. Not a single player game bundled on top of another multiplayer kill fest.

The story is addictive and immersive. It connects you with B.J Blazkowicz and your allies. It develops so well that you will emphasise completely with their plight and your Nazi killing tendencies. As you take out the main ‘baddies’ you will feel accomplished and at the end you will feel… You will certainly feel something!

And you will certainly be looking a sequel!

Another point that on this game properly got my attention is the soundtrack. It is pretty much perfect. The tense and often difficult boss battles are fought to a thumping soundtrack that just matches in magnificently. The story elements are also matched with music that compliments the scene every time. And even when having to take a few attempts at some of the difficult moments in the game I found that the soundtrack removed the aggravation at the repetition.

To summarise. Buy this game. Play it through and be immersed by the single player player campaign. Its developing and wild story will see you in Germany, England, outer space and even completing a moon walk all the while taking on waves of crazy Nazis, huge (and really huge) robots, armoured dogs, coupled with trying to balance your love life. Oh and you’ll get a laser!

A great game!

How to Replace / Install PS4 Hard Drive

The PS4 is a cracking’ machine. Brilliant in fact. But really, Sony what were you thinking with only giving us a 500GB hard drive. ‘Oh it was to keep costs down,’ you will no doubt reply, but that is a bit of a false economy, as the costs go back up when we have to replace our HDDs ourselves.

It also to be far has been a bit of a slow start for me when it comes to PS4 gaming as at this moment in time I simply have the games that came free with PS+ as well as The Last of Use Remastered, Wolfenstein, Sniper III, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Infamous Second Son, Watch Dogs and Killzone. So a reasonable mediocre collection at this point, so imagine my surprise when I checked my free space and noted I had had 92GB out of my initial 500GB left!

Well all that meant was it was upgrade time.

The story is not that simply however. As in the past, probably January (isn) 2014 I did try to pre empt this situation and took it upon myself to do an early upgrade to limit the hassle of re-downloading all of my games and game data. however back then I was one of the PS4 users who couldn’t upgrade to 2TB. The reasons for that were that at that time Seagate made the only compatible and affordable 2TB drive for PS4. However it came in an enclosure, you had to take it apart…

That wouldn’t put me off however and I did purchase it back then, that’s when the problems arose. It was quickly established that if you cracked open your PS4 and found a HGST drive staring at you chance were that the Seagate drive was going to be incompatible with your system. Basically there was ‘handshake’ issues between the hardware, but I won’t bore you with that as now it is all thankfully ancient history! (Workarounds were present but I like things to work right 100% of the time, so I shifted the drive on to someone who could use it properly.)

So after a bit of reading I established with a degree of certainty that I could live with that the hand shake issues that were previously present were now gone. No matter what drive you had in your PS4 the Seagate 2TB M9T drive was / is now 100% compatible.

That’s all I needed to here, and off to the shops I trekked picking the drive up for £69.99 and back to the house I hurried to try it out.

Turtle Beach Ear Force Shadow UnBoxing

I have never been one for earphones whilst gaming, however the guys that are say that there is simply no comparison to gaming with a decent set of ‘cans’ as opposed to a television speaker set up or a basic 2.1 system. Then when you start to move into good 5.1 systems you may be unfortunate enough then that your house, or worse your neighbours’ house starts to shake when stuff starts exploding on screen. It is this point that a good gaming head set starts to come into its own.

For me I have taken the plunge with a mid range set of headphones, namely ‘Turtle Beach Ear Force Shawdow.’ I have been on the lookout for such a set of headphones for a while but was always put off by the price tag. When these came up in a recent flash sale that was effectively saying, ‘Here you go chum, take these and male a small donation to our store,’ it was simply impossible to say no! (Oh and they are PS4 compatible!)

Here is what Turtle Beach have to say about this set. At the time of writing the price is £79.99 GBP.

10 Second Game Review : Infamous 2

What the hell you may be asking!  And rightly so Infamous 2 was released in 2011 after all!

However I purchased it on release and it sat in its cellophane wrapper until a couple of days ago.  I thought with the now imminent release of Infamous : Second Son I needed to catch up before I dove into the newest Next Gen instalment of this huge City Platformer / Action / Shooter / RP (I think it is officially classed as a Third Person Action Game.

The basic plot is WITHOUT SPOILERS is that you take on the role of Cole McGrath, Empire City has been destroyed in a huge blast, you and Zeke have moved to New Marais, however the Beast is coming and he is ripping up the entire Eastern Seaboard.  You must stop him!

This game is huge, there is a good 12 hours in playing through the story and much much more in playing the side missions.  You make decisions whether Cole becomes a hero to humanity or a Villian to rival the worst of them is entirely in your hands.  People will worship or fear you, and it is your actions or even lack of actions that will determine which way the crowd sways.

Visually New Marais is stunning, all the visuals are, the textures in the electricity and buildings will leave you wondering what we are going to get in the PS4 game.  The story is compelling and interesting, made even more so as it is you who is steering the action in a particular direction.

The only question that now remains is are you good or evil?

Play it, enjoy it and salivate at the thought of the impending Infamous : Second Son!
