Some Mac Wallpapers are saved in the Apple HEIC format.
This enables the wallpapers to have multiple variants – often that change with the time of day, or whether dark / light mode is being used.
It is important that when saving these images you use the ‘Download‘ option rather than right clicking and using the ‘Save Image As…’ Option.
To save these images correctly simply click on the image then on the ‘…‘ menu (near the top right of the Google Photos Window). Here you will see the ‘Download‘ Option.
Doing this will mean you can get full functionality for any live / changeable wallpapers.
