Isle of Wight Diamond Races Postponed Until 2022 :

It is hardly surprising but the Isle of Wight Diamond Races have been postponed until 2022 due to the ongoing Covid 19 Pandemic.

The event was due to launch in October 2021 but with ongoing travel restrictions, uncertainty around vaccines and when the restrictions are likely to lift the organisers have made the unfortunate but understandable decision to postpone the event.

Founder of the event and team leader Paul Sandford told bikesportnews.com: “We have got all the permissions in place from the Isle of Wight council and the ACU and we know what we need to do.

“These include traffic management plans, course preparation and managing teams to get on and off the island. So there’s a lot of money to be spent. But the big unknown we have got is covid so given the challenges we have we took the decision to move it to 2022.”

Coronavirus just keep on adding to list of events that have to be postponed and or cancelled and the Diamond Races inaugural event is the latest to fall victim.

2021 Irish National Road Races Again Takes Covid-19 Hit

2021 Irish National Road Races
2021 Irish National Road Races

All 2021 Irish (ROI) National Road Races have now been cancelled – with the exception of the 2021 Skerries 100. Kells was the first to declare early last week, but two days later and the entire Irish schedule took a further hit when the Munster 100, Walderstown : Race of the South, and the Faugheen 50 all confirmed that they too would not run in 2021.

That means that at this moment the only chance of any Irish Road Racing comes from Skerries 100 on 3rd – 4th July 2021. This event is still under constant review by the organisers.

The picture isn’t much better in Northern Ireland (and the Isle of Man which has also cancelled the 2021 TT Races).

Cookstown 100 has been postponed and the organisers hope to run it on 10th – 11th September 2021. Armoy still plans to run on 30th – 31st July 2021, both events are under review by the respective clubs. The Tandragee 100 and North West 200 are both confirmed as cancelled.

It is going to be another very difficult year for all the riders, teams and organising clubs. 2022 is going to need to a lot of support, so when the dates get announced and the TBNI Road Racing Calendar gets updated get those dates into your own personal calendars and book the weekend off work, there is going to be a lot of racing to get done!

2021 North West 200 Cancelled

2021 North West 200 Road Races have been cancelled.

The Coleraine and District Motor Club have confirmed via a Facebook Post that their 2021 event is now cancelled due to the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic.

2021 North West 200 Cancelled
2021 North West 200 Cancelled

2021 fonaCAB Nicholl Oils North West 200 cancelled.

It is with great regret that the Coleraine and District Motor Club Ltd has to announce the cancellation of the 2021 fonaCAB Nicholl Oils North West 200.

The official advice from government and public health officials has made it clear the effects of Coronavirus will remain with us for some considerable time to come, despite the roll out of the vaccination programme. In those circumstances, and after much consideration, the Club committee feels it would be impossible to run this year’s event.

A contingency plan that involved delaying race week from May until August has been given full consideration. However, with so much time, expense and personnel involved in the planning and preparation of the NW200, the risk in pursuing such a plan is too great because of continued uncertainty around both the effects of the virus on our community and the extent of the restrictions aimed at suppressing it.

The Coleraine Club’s main priority must be to ensure the safety and wellbeing of not only those involved in the event, but also the residents of the north coast area and further afield. It would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, for the organisers to limit the number of people who travel to the area during race week which, in turn, could pose a significant risk to the local population. That is a situation that cannot be contemplated.

Although extremely disappointing, the decision to cancel the NW200 for the second year in a row is the only responsible course of action the Coleraine Club can take. We would like to offer our sincere thanks to all of our loyal sponsors, officials and volunteers for their understanding and support.

We also apologise for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation and hope that this timely intervention can assist the teams and competitors who would normally take part in to our event in making alternative plans.

The Coleraine and District Motor Club would also like to thank everyone who has supported us by retaining their bookings through this difficult period.

Our reservations team will be in contact in the coming weeks as we now look forward to 2022 when a provisional date of May 8-14 has been allocated for what we hope will be the return of race week at Ireland’s largest motorcycle sporting event.

Until then we ask that everyone stays safe and follows the official advice in support of those in the front line of the battle against Coronavirus.

Issued by Coleraine and District Motor Club Ltd.

2021 Cookstown 100 Postponed

2021 Cookstown 100 Postponed
2021 Cookstown 100 Postponed

The 2021 Cookstown 100 has been postponed. The Cookstown Club made an official statement on 18th January 2021 confirming that their April 2021 would not be going ahead. All is not lost though, it has been postponed until September…

**OFFICIAL STATEMENT**

The directors of Cookstown & District Motorcycle Club (RR) Ltd held various conversations over the last few weeks in regards to the 2021 Cookstown 100 event which had been scheduled to take place on the last weekend in April 2021.

After receiving advice and information from various bodies in regards to the current situation within our community with the ongoing pandemic, the club has taken the decision to postpone our event until the 10th & 11th of September 2021.

We as organisers of the event are extremely disappointed, but we must put the health and safety of our residents, officials, competitors and spectators first.

Whilst it is welcomed that the current vaccine process has began, the time frame of which the vaccine will be distributed to everyone in the community, means the timing of our event in April brings too much uncertainty to competitors, spectators and of coarse to the club ourselves.

While this may come as a disappointment to many, we must act in a responsible way and allow time for the vaccine to help protect the community and also allow time for the NHS to become less overwhelmed.

We hope that by giving extra time in 2021 before running our event, we are in a much better position in our community by September and we will bring another great few days racing, just as we did in 2020.

Yours in sport

CDMCC Chairman

John Dillon

TT 2021 Cancelled

TT 2021 Cancelled :

The speculation of will or won’t the TT 2021 run has now been answered.

The Isle of Man Government announced today that the next time the TT Races will run will be in 2022.

Press Release :

The Isle of Man Government today confirmed the cancellation of the 2022 TT Races. The next TT Races will bow take place in 2022, from Saturday 28th May to Saturday 11th June.

Laurence Skelly, MHK, Minister, Department for Enterprise, Isle of Man Government, said:

‘We do not underestimate the disappointment that this decision will cause to many people. However, we are making an early and logical decision to provide certainty and clarity to race fans and everyone else involved in our event. The TT relies on thousands of volunteers and officials across a wide range of organisations and we could not move responsibly towards operating to that date and commit to welcoming tens of thousands of people to the Island in June, despite the progress towards a vaccination programme globally and on the Island.’

‘We evaluated all possible options including moving the TT to a date later in the year but there are complexities and risks, including scaling up of certain infrastructure and critical delivery elements of the TT, as well as existing resident and visitor travel in late August, which would cause further disruption to thousands of people.’

‘We remain hopeful that the Classic TT and Manx Grand Prix can take place later in the year and we look forward to welcoming visitors to our Island again.’

Paul Phillips, TT Business Development Manager, Isle of Man Government Department for Enterprise added:

2021 Road Racing Schedule

2021 Road Racing Schedule :

Road Racing at the 2020 Cookstown 100
Road Racing at the 2020 Cookstown 100

Update 1 : January 2021 : The optimism of a full 2021 race season took a big hit in January when the Tandragee 100 was the first to announce its cancellation to 2022. Shortly after all Southern events, with the exception of Skerries declared themselves as cancelled until 2022.

Update 2 : January 2021 : 2021 North West 200 has been cancelled until 2022.

Update 3 : April 2021 : 2021 Skerries has been cancelled resulting in an empty calendar in the Republic of Ireland for the entire 2021. However Armoy has states its intention to proceed as a ticket only event at the end of July 2021. Currently that means we have Armoy and Cookstown events in 2021.

It is obviously ridiculously early and things are subject to change (and are changing almost daily) thanks to Covid-19, however the Provisional 2021 Road racing Schedule has been complied and who could blame you for looking forward to some road racing after the year 2020 has been (with the exception of course of the fabulous 2020 Cookstown 100)!
