2019 Macau GP Race Summary :
After some amazing qualifying the stage was set for an epic 2019 Macau Grand Prix.
Instantly from the start of the race Peter Hickman showed his form and within the four four laps was out of sight by over second seconds from Michael Rutter. Dave Johnson was in third.
Red Flag 1 :
However Rob Hodson and Marek Cerveny were involved in an incident and the race was red flagged.
After a 20 ish minute delay the race was restarted over a planned eight laps. Michael Rutter got off to a perfect start and led Peter Hickman over the line on the first lap. Hicky passed him a short distance into lap two, Davi Johnson was still in there at third and it was Hicky was looking ridiculously strong again.
Red Flag 2 :
However disaster struck on lap two for Erno Kostamo, Didier Grams, Phil Crowe, Michael Sweeney, Dan Kruger and Derek Sheils in a massive pile up at Police. The result was another red flag and three riders hospitalised. Thankfully no one is seriously injured.
Due to fading light the race was cancelled, but there was hope that the Grand Prix may get squeezed into Sunday’s packed schedule, unfortunately that was not to be.
The race was called and as Michael Rutter was leading at the conclusion of the last complete lap the result was called as 1. Michael Rutter, 2. Peter Hickman, 3. Dave Johnson. Michael Rutter taking his ninth Macau win.
An unfortunate end to what was lining up to be an amazing Macau GP for the bikes, but most importantly is that all riders are relatively safe and well. Get well soon to these injured and that is it for 2019 and the road racing calendar.
