2027 North West 200 Dates :
The 2027 North West 200 will run from the 10th – 15th May 2027.
The North West 200 will run a week later than usual in 2027, bringing a welcome return to its traditional race week schedule with Tuesday hosting the opening practice session of the week.
The calendar shift avoids a direct clash with the Northern Ireland Assembly and local council elections, where polling day lands on Thursday, 6 May 2027.
To steer clear of the political machinery, the Triangle circuit will roar to life a week later, running from Monday 10th May through to Saturday, 15 May. The revision means the paddock reverts to its much-loved traditional format: opening qualifying on Tuesday, final qualifying alongside evening races on Thursday, and the headline race day wrapping up proceedings on Saturday.
Road closures are set for 09:00 across all three days of action, with a three race schedule for Thursday evening followed by a stacked six-race card on Saturday.
Between 2024 and 2026, opening practice had been pushed back to Wednesday to accommodate competitors and outfits hotfooting it straight from the May Day British Superbike round at Oulton Park. However, reinstating the gap day between Tuesday practice and Thursday action promises to inject extra breathing room for teams and revive the full festival atmosphere along the Causeway Coast.
Speaking to BBC Sport NI’s Stephen Watson, North West 200 Event Director Mervyn Whyte explained that the paddock was unanimous in backing the move:
“We talked to a number of teams and competitors when we were across at the recent BSB round at Oulton Park, to find out what their thoughts were, and every one of them was more than pleased to go back to the Tuesday and Thursday,” Whyte revealed.
“It’s less issues, less problems, it’s good for them, and it’s good for the officials running the event because we now have a day in between.
“It will give us a longer race week festival and for us it’s the right result.”
The scheduling update comes alongside a significant commercial boost for the event, with title sponsor Briggs Equipment extending its backing right through to the North West 200’s centenary celebrations.
That long-term commitment follows hot on the heels of the recent BBC broadcast agreement, securing stability and extensive coverage through to the landmark 2029 milestone.
