The 2026 Walderstown Road Races, the famed “Race of the South,” returned to County Westmeath on July 18–19, 2026. Organised by the Fore Motorcycle Racing Club, the sun-drenched weekend delivered top-tier national road racing action highlighted by historic milestones and lap records.

Dunlop Dominates with Another Hat-Trick :

The headline story of the weekend belonged to Michael Dunlop MBE (MD Racing – BMW). Replicating his 2022 feat, Dunlop left the Walderstown circuit with a commanding hat-trick of race victories, including a masterful performance in the feature Terence Healy Motorcycles Open Race.

  • Historic Tally: The Open race victory marked Dunlop’s 137th career Irish National road race win.
  • The Podium: Dunlop maintained his perfect 2026 unbeaten streak in the 1000cc national category, overcoming pole-sitter Michael Sweeney (Martin Jones Racing – BMW) and early race leader Derek McGee (BE/RK Racing – BMW), who made a highly popular and strong return to the roads scene.

Press Release dated – 22/05/2026

Motor Cycle Road Racing between the hedges in Ireland has been attracting competitors and spectators since 1903 when the Governing Body for Motor Cycle Racing was first established.

This year the MCUI (UC) has five road race events in Northern Ireland, Cookstown 100, NW200 which have already been completed, the Tandragee 100, Armoy and the Mid Antrim 150 are still to come between the end of June and July months.

November 2025, we published the plans for the return of the Ulster Grand Prix in 2027.

The planning and funding stages are very much underway, with various meetings with the local council LCCC and amenity providers on the course preparation.

Areas of road surface in need of repair have been identified with DFI Roads Eastern division and meetings with Openreach on relocation of several telegraph poles have taken place with positive discussions.

Shortly after our November announcement we had a constructive residents meeting in the Ballymac Hotel, at which there was a willingness from them to see this great event return under the new management group.
