Rather than do an unboxing video or solo gallery of the new iPhone X I have decided to combine a gallery with my initial thoughts and a very short term review.
I have had the iPhone X a week, having been lucky enough to get one on release day (3rd November 2017), and I’ll be straight up – I am impressed.
I’ll also be honest – it is damned expensive! A 256 GB model will set you back £1149 and if you want AppleCare it’s another £199 – so thats £1348 for a phone with 2 years piece of mind! If you dont want piece of mind just throw your eyes over this repair price list – it may (or may not) sway your decision on AppleCare. Personally I get AppleCare on all my Apple devices – (something I have never actually had reason to use) whether you do or not is obviously a personal choice however at these prices some sort of insurance seems like a no-brainer.
Disclosure :I purchased this case direct from the Apple Store for £59.95 (GBP), the review is my own as are my thoughts on the product.
With that said let me say I am a huge fan of Tech21 and the gear they put out. I have a Tech21 case on both my iPad Mini (2nd Gen) and my iPhone 7 Plus – both are still in perfect condition and their Tech21 cases have kept them looking effectively unused. It was then a no brainer for me that I would use a Tech21 case for my iPad Pro 10.5.
Off I trotted to the Apple Store in Belfast and picked up the Tech 21 Impact Clear (Rear) Case – costing a whopping £59.95 (GBP).

The Moko Case was great – a bargain in fact, however it wasn’t Smart Keyboard compatible. I had purchased a Smart Keyboard so needed a case that would work with it.
So along came the Tech21 Impact Clear (Rear) Case :

Photobucket are now charging $99 for a year so that we can link our own images hosted on photobucket.com and have them displayed on a third party site (like this one).
That is ridiculous.

My predicition of the Mini SNES – mere hours before Nintendo announced the SNES ClassicThe Classic SNES is coming on 29th September 2017 and will be priced at $79.99 / £79.99 (although Smyths Toys currently have preorders listed at £69.99.)
You are going to have to be quick though Amazon have stopped preorders, ShopTo have it marked as ‘Sold Out’ and Game is just crashing. This is going to be another Mini NES scenario and the popularity of it is fuelling this SNES even more! eBay already has listings for £180 and eBay.com has preorders listed at $299! Keep an eye on places like Tesco, Asda etc who will probably start their preorders over the next day or so so in the quick so you won’t have to rely on eBay and Gumtree scalpels!
At the moment retro could not be more current. The Mini NES bringing back retro gaming into the mainstream, Nokia re-release the most classic and iconic handset of all time – the Nokia 3310 – RetroPi bringing pretty much every game ever released for all the classic systems right into your living room!
Retro is so cool and everyone agrees, well everyone agrees until you use it. Forget gaming, because retro gaming is awesome, but what about the rest of it? The truth is – retro tech suffers, because technology moves on, when we go back to old tech we instantly think – “Wow, how did we cope with this? It is so slow!”
Go back to the start of the mobile web, remember it? Chances are you could be reading this post on a mobile device and thanks to 4G, and responsive web themes you can get the full enjoyment and all the information from this site and pretty much every other site on the internet on any device from one in the palm of your hand to another on a full 5K 27 inch screen!
Do you remember what we had for mobile devices before that? (Tablets didn’t really exist at this point either). It was called WAP. In a nutshell the iPhone happened (other operating systems popped up to, Symbian, Android…
From this HTML became accessible by handsets and then tablets (as we now know them) popped along. Fast forward a little now we are right here, right now.
And then back to the point of this post. We look back on all things retro with great nostalgia and think “how great was that iPhone”. Truth is it was great, but technology has moved on so much that those devices we hold so highly would now be unusable, if not unusable at least so frustratingly slow that we wouldn’t want to use them. Out 2G original iPhone wouldn’t even be able to load this web site at any sort of useful speed, whereas with 4G it loads like lightning in glorious technicolor. But our original iPhone was so cool and retro is cool. So here you go, here is the idea :
Here are the original iPhone backgrounds. Save them to your device and add them as your wallpaper. You now have the best of both worlds. The cool as hell retro backgrounds from the original iPhone, wrapped in the shell of an up to date and completely usable device. Let’s be honest that’s what we want anyway, the retro chic with the functioning of the latest tech.
Now get back to your Mini NES and guide that little heroic plumber to save his bride. Oh and talking of which, when the Mini SNES is announced, get it preordered – it’s going to be in high demand. That’s my prediction for this Christmas anyway!

I covered the fortnight, practice week and race week – live and had great fun doing so.
Then I had a look at the analytics for the fortnight and was pretty shocked.
I found the following :

24,941 were for Senior TT Coverage! That’s just one race!
1402 Unique Hits from the UK and Isle of Man for the Senior Race Coverage!
So if you followed me during the Races or Practice, thank you. If not make sure you do so next time. I’ll be doing my best to keep you all up to date during the Armoy Road Races and the Ulster Grand Prix.
Preorders have already started for the new iPad Pro, and lead times for some combinations are already touching 10 days for dispatch – but when can you go into an actual store, have a look at the new devices and walk out (hopefully) with one?
That is a much harder question to find the answer to, no where seems to have that date in black and white.

The reviews have already started coming in and they are very positive, however one thing shines through in every review I have seen… iOS11 is when we will truly know the true potential for the new iPad Pro and it won’t be with us until the Autumn (Fall for all you guys and girls stateside).
