Motorcycle Live for 2020 has went virtual!
Due to the ongoing global Covid-19 Pandemic, like so many events Motorcycle Live at the Birmingham NEC has had to be postponed until 2021.
However – a 2020 Show will go on, but for this year it will be online!
Running from 21 – 29 November 2020 at https://www.motorcyclelive.co.uk you will be able to browse 51 microsites from manufacturers and dozens more from exhibitors.
Obviously it won’t be the same as a walking round the huge arena with a camera and notepad to make a shortlist of what you may buy next nor be able to go home with your new helmet or latest selection of gear for the winter or even next Season but you can still sit down with a cup of coffee and spend some time perfecting your wish list!

2020 Cookstown 100 Results
No one thought it happen – road racing in 2020, but it did!
Full credit must go to Cookstown 100 Club and every member of the team who pushed forward with what at times must have seemed like an impossible task – running a road race in 2020 and under the ever present cloud of Covid-19.
But press ahead they did and the result was an extremely successful and extremely well run 2020 Cookstown 100. There were some restrictions in place such as movement around the course and the numbers of people who could be admitted, none of which were under the control of the Club. You can after all only play the hand you are dealt, and they played their hand well.
In 2020 if the only thing you can complain about is that the weather closed in and meant the feature superbike race had to be called off, then you have done well, and really that’s all there is to complain about – the Northern Irish weather – typical. But, for most of the day it was grand, warm and dry – couple that with a ‘full house’ and riders and teams who were clearly thrilled to be back on the roads and you get a brilliant road race.
The only disappointment now is that that is all 2020 has to offer in the Northern / Irish Racing Calendar. One thing is for sure it will have wet the appetite for 2021!
Onto the racing and we saw the return of Adam McLean after his off at 2019 Tandragee and he came back with the outstanding form he had been showing prior to the Tandragee incident – excellent – resulting in a double for him in the Supersport and Supertwin classes, and adding the Supertwin lap record to his list of accolades.
The Superbike Open race took three attempts to get a result, the win for Derek Shiels on his BMW showed more of the same from the Irish man – fast and stylish – as we have grown accustomed two over previous years and brought his total to 9 wins at Cookstown.
Paul Jordan continued to show his class and form, taking a strong win in the Moto3 / 125cc class.
Neil Kernohan with his distinctive helmet and always immaculately turned out machines took the 250cc / Lightweight class and Barry Davidson took the Junior Classic.
Vinny Breenan took the first race of the Day in the Senior Support Class, Junior Support was lifted by Michael Gillan by over 4 seconds in an impressive race.

To the joy of road racing fans the world over we have actually had some racing in 2020! From 14th – 16th August Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough held the Barry Sheene Classic. A day of practice and qualifying followed by two days of flat out non stop racing.
The Oliver’s Mount events are ones that I do not normally cover, mainly because I have no chance of getting any where them but this year I did follow them quite intently on Twitter and on the live timings site and have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the coverage, tweeting and online content that I could find.
UKClubSport have done an excellent job in putting the results together for every qualifying session and race. You will find every result from the 2020 Oliver’s Mount Barry Sheene Classic here :
It brings me great pleasure to say that Northern Ireland’s own Lee Johnston shone to make it a perfect four out of four in the Supersport category.
Dean Harrison also brought his A-game and made it a superb five from five in the Classic Superbike races.
What a packed weekend that event was with a huge 31 races ran over the two race days. That really makes me want to make the trip over.
Oliver’s Mount next event is scheduled to be the Gold Cup due to run on the weekend of the 11th – 13th September 2020. Unfortunately that clashes directly with the planned dates for the rescheduled 2020 Cookstown 100.

Important News for 2020 KDM Hire Cookstown 100 Spectators
To let all Spectators know in advance, below is a list of instructions from government departments which must be adhered to, so you the Spectators can attend.
Further information also is that all Spectators must be in their areas for 11 am on Friday at the latest.
On Saturday everyone must be in their areas for 930am at the latest.
All Spectators must enter the course via main Orritor Road from Cookstown, or the Drummearn ROAD (From lough fea Road) as all official car parks are on these two main routes.
Security will be at all other entrances and surrounding areas.
Please understand that these measures are not ideal for anyone, but we must work together to ensure we get this event to take place and we see some road racing in 2020.

Working towards the race
The Cookstown & District Motor Cycle Club have confirmed, that, the postponed race meeting, will now take place on Friday and Saturday 11th/12th September.
Following the recent COVID 19 updates, the club is now in the position to put the final touches to their plans for what will be the Only road race to take place in 2020.
For the event to take place, the Club has taken a sensible and responsible approach, working with Sport NI and other various bodies, which will result in some significant changes.
Spectator numbers will be restricted to 1000 on Friday and 1600 on Saturday, and will only be allowed in designated areas.
The KDM Hire Cookstown 100 will be a “Closed Event”, a successful online Booking system has been in operation, which has enabled the organizers to follow the strict guidelines put in place by Department for Communities & NI Sports Forum.
A race programme which will include a unique wristband will be posted out to everyone who has used the Booking system
Only those with a Wristband will gain access
There will be 10 designated spectator areas located around the 1.7 mile circuit. These areas will allow a maximum number of spectators in each so that any regulations in respect to mass gatherings in one area can be maintained and managed.

Friday 17th July 2020 marked World Emoji Day, and in celebration of the event, Apple shared a preview of upcoming 2020 emojis that will be added to iPhones, iPads, and Macs with Emojipedia.
2020 will see the Emoji 13 update being released and some of the loveable little images planned include :

The update also features 55 gender and skin-tone variants, along with new gender-inclusive emojis that can be used as an alternative to gendered versions, such as person with veil and person with tuxedo rather than the current woman/man options.
Unfortunately after ‘Emoji 13’ there will be a six month delay to ‘Emoji 14’ which means it will most likely be 2022 when the next big update comes along.
“Under the current circumstances we’ve heard that our contributors have a lot on their plates at the moment and decided it was in the best interests of our volunteers and the organizations that depend on the standard to push out our release date,” said Mark Davis, President of the Consortium. “This year we simply can’t commit to the same schedule we’ve adhered to in the past.”

A revised calendar has been released for the 2020 Moto GP Season.
So soon we are going to have MotoGP bikes and BSB bikes back on track, all we need now is some road action!
After the MotoGP™ and MotoE™ 2020 calendars were released, motogp.com sat down with Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta to get his thoughts on the season ahead.
What can you tell us about the calendar?
“It has been hard work from our side and from the side of the promoters, finally we obtained these possibilities. Once we had the protocol approved then we are able to propose this calendar. In principle we have some circuits where we will repeat races one week after another, because this is easy for movement and to maintain the protocol, although there are others where we will have just one race. We thought when we ran into the problem of the pandemic, we realised we can do 13 races and then if it’s possible to go outside Europe it will be interesting. The races outside Europe need to be confirmed before the end of July, then also our agreement with the manufacturers and with the teams is to finish the Championship no later than the 13th of December, that means we need to decide which of the races to do, if all of them are possible, and we will decide which races we will have outside Europe. This is something we will put in the calendar as a proposal and we will decide on it no later than the end of July.”
So we’re waiting to see how the pandemic evolves and for permissions from authorities for the final four races at the end of the year?
“We need to wait because as we’ve commented before, to do the races outside Europe it’s necessary to do it with spectators. We are waiting to see the development of health measures in other countries, in the States, Argentina, Malaysia and Thailand, and then we will see what is possible to include in the calendar.”
Could the season, potentially, finish in Malaysia?
“We will see. It’s a possibility, but all the races outside of Europe are pending and we don’t know exactly. If there are no races outside Europe then the Championship will finish like every year in Valencia, if not it depends which races are able to do it but Malaysia is one possibility, yes.”
What more can you tell us about the protocol for going racing?
“The protocol is the hardest one we have. We’ve presented it to everyone. If the situation improves later there could be some changes, but always in agreement with the authorities, but today it’s the protocol we have presented to everyone – from the teams to the FIM, it’s the protocol we will use from the beginning of the Championship.”
And we also have the MotoE™ calendar now announced…
“Yes. There will be five rounds: two in Jerez, two in Misano and one round in France. The second Misano round and the Le Mans round will have two races.”
Do you have a message for the paddock?
“I wish you all the best possible season. The most important thing is for everyone to take care of their health, and as always, we wish everyone a happy season with no crashes!”

IMPORTANT NEWS: Today the organisers of Motorcycle Live have released an important statement with regards to “Motorcycle Live in association with Bikesure Insurance 2020.”
Show organisers for Motorcycle Live regretfully announced today that following an extensive and detailed consultation period, it has been agreed to postpone this year’s show until 2021 with concern for public safety and the well-being of industry colleagues being central to the decision.
The following open letter has been issued from Managing Director of Motorcycle Live, Finlay McAllan:
“Motorcycle Live is all about audience interaction, meeting with friends, climbing onto all the latest machines and trying on the all latest gear. Many of us use it as an annual pilgrimage to meet with friends and family and enjoy a great day out together. And it’s not just the public who join us each day – we, alongside our industry colleagues – look forward to the event every year too. Therefore, as you can imagine, the decision to postpone this year’s show has not been taken lightly. Our concern for the safety of our visitors, exhibitors and industry colleagues is at the heart of this decision.
“As with any hard decision, we looked at it with a number of different perspectives and factored in various scenarios and restrictions that could be imposed. Running an event like Motorcycle Live under the COVID-19 related restrictions – such as adhering to social distancing requirements, restricting attendance numbers and dictating the direction of people around the hall – all ultimately would have impacted negatively on the experience of those attending and therefore the very essence of the show.
“The whole of the Motorcycle Live team is extremely disappointed – as we’re sure that you are too – but rest assured we will continue working behind the scenes to deliver you a fantastic show in 2021. In the meantime, stay safe and look after each other.”
Motorcycle Live 2021 will take place from 20 – 28 November.
