2023 Irish Road Racing Insurance Update : 1st March 2023 :

The Official Facebook Page for the Loughshinny Club have posted an update on the current situation within Motorcycle Ireland and for all motorcycling events in Ireland.

Motorcycle Cycle Ireland confirmed last night there is still no insurance in place to cover motorcycle racing across all disciplines in the South of Ireland.

A detailed summary was given of the efforts put in to gain insurance over the past months and the challenges which were faced.

The MCI are awaiting one final insurance quote, this policy is being negotiated for all disciplines however the insurer does have an option to quote for a combination of disciplines, for example everything minus road racing, offroad only etc.

In terms of Start Permission, there will be official confirmation by the end of this week. Start permission will be needed and available to those traveling outside the Island of Ireland to attend racing events such as the Isle of Man TT.

Any questions, please contact us. We would like to thank you for your continued support throughout these uncertain times.

Following the news of that all Northern Irish Road Racing events have been cancelled due to unsustainable insurance costs the Isle of Man has now also revealed that it too has been affected by an insurance cost rise.

Although not the circa 300% rise that Northern Ireland has faced this year the Insurance to cover this year’s Manx road racing events has risen by 18%.

Enterprise Minister Tim Johnston revealed the figure in Tynwald this week – confirming the 2023 policy will cost £930,000 – up from £790,000 last year.

He described rising costs as a ‘challenge’ for motorsport events but adds his department has a ‘clear strategy in place’ to grow and diversify the TT.

The cost covers the likes of the TT, pre-TT, MGP and Southern 100.

Irish events are also still in doubt as no cover has yet been obtained for any 2023 events.
