Enabling the skill is simple: open up the Alexa app, open the extra menu and choose the skills option. Then your are looking for Apple Music. Choose it.
The Alexa App will then ask you to log in with your Apple ID, confirm that you want Alexa to be able to talk to Apple Music, and then the two will be paired up. From the music options within the app, you can choose to make Apple Music the default streaming service, though you can also end your request when speaking to Alexa with “on Apple Music” to tell Alexa that is the service you want to use.
As default the preset Music Service is likely to be Amazon Music so you may want to change this within the app.
- If Apple Music is not set as your default Music Service within the Alexa App : “Alexa, play ‘Today’s Hits’ on Apple Music”
- If Apple Music is set as your default Music Service within the Alexa App : “Alexa play Future Hits”
It is that simple – and having been using it for the last 24 hours it works well, so it’s all good. Now those of us with the Sonos and Alexa setups have the convenience of not having to delve into the Sonos App to play Apple Music.
Enjoy and if you have a load of Echos and Alexa devices in your Smart Home Setup and have yet to try Apple Music or maybe any music streaming service you can get your three month free Apple Music from the link down the side of this site.
