TORRAS for iPhone 17 Pro Max Case with MagSafe : Review

You will have without doubt noticed TORRAS cases this year, they seem to be sponsoring all of YouTube!

The offering that you will have seen over most of the big Tech Reviewers is their TORRAS OStand Q3 Air model. This is their top of the range case that offers huge drop figure protection numbers as well as an integrated ring that doubles as a holder and stand. You can set the phone in any number of orientations and angles for your viewing pleasure…

However that is not the case I bought.

The OStand Q3 Air is very pricey at £55.99 GBP, I just could not justify the cost on a brand I have not yet tried. At that price point they are directly competing with the likes of Nomad (which has been my case of choice for the last 2 years with my iPhone 15 Pro Max) and Mous, a previous and uncontested favourite of mine, since replaced by a Nomad.

So I opted for one of their mid level cases, the TORRAS for iPhone 17 Pro Max Case with MagSafe which was priced at £23.99 GBP. For similar reasons to my purchase of the ESR Hybrid Magnetic Case, mainly that it was readily available for delivery prior to the launch of the new iPhone and it is absolutely necessary to have a case for your new phone, only sociopaths use their phone without a case! /s

As you would expect with Amazon the case arrived promptly and my initial impressions were indeed very positive. The packing is as you would expect, it’s a box, it ensures the case arrives protected, and the case itself is wrapped in a soft touch branded bag. The pleasant surprise was the pack of buttons which allow you to add a little bit of customisation and personality to the case. It is simply a press out and replace process to add a little colour pop to your case.

The Case : TORRAS for iPhone 17 Pro Max Case with MagSafe

Should you be interested, at the time of writing (September 2025) this case is currently available on Amazon for the iPhone 13 through to the iPhone 17 range and in a range of colours.

If you have already had a look at my ESR Hybrid Magnetic Case Review you will notice that the big difference between each case is the camera plateau protection. The ESR has a completely covered camera bump save for the lenses and this TORRAS offering has opted for an open section and fully exposed camera bump.

Should I be worried about the hump? The 2025 iPhone Scandal – ScratchGate

Probably not.  Jerry Rig Everything has released a video that shows the camera hump, especially the edges are very open to scratches, however the hump itself seems to do pretty well – the basics I took from the video (below) is that it may be a good idea to protect the edges of the hump.

Despite the evidence above and the obvious durability (apart for the exposed edges of that plateau) I have since opted for a clear rear skin to cover the camera housing – just to add that little bit of extra security and safety. I do not like a scratched phone so am happy enough to tolerate the little extra sheen that a rear skin will add. Protect your phone, keep it nice and your pocket will thank you in the long run when it comes time to sell it on for the next upgrade!

It is important to add though that the now known vulnerable aspect of the camera housing is fully protected by this TORRAS case and as that part of the phone is now totally protected the need for worry about the camera bump should be pretty much negated.

Also – why do people put their phone in a pocket full of keys and coins – use a pocket for your phone and the other pocket for ‘pruck.’ Problem solved.

So How Does the TORRAS for iPhone 17 Pro Max Case with MagSafe Case Perform?

I really like this case, the feel of the case is exceptional, like soft touch plastics, it is smooth and feels premium, however it is not slippy, it doesn’t give the impression that it will slide out of your hand, nor around the desk.

The black see-thru version I have purchased still shows the original colourway of your phone and with the exposed camera plateau, offers a further glimpse at the original finish of the phone. Get a colour combination that compliments each other and it will only add to the aesthetic of the device. Like Orange and Black. Then don’t forget your customisable buttons.

If you are concerned about the bump then a skin is an option, it fits and doesn’t interfere with the installing or removing of the case – as long as you are careful around the edges.

It is MagSafe compatible and the magnets are strong to ensure a quick and snappy fit and the charging works as you would expect.

The fit of the case is exact and I found no issues with the buttons or cutouts, all of which were accurate, clicky and precise. The camera is protected by a slightly raised (2.5mm) lip which keeps the housing and lens clear of the surface they are on should you place the phone face up. On the other hand if you place the phone face down there is another 1.5mm raised lip around the entire phone to protect the glass from touching the surface. As is important with such a lip the good news is this in no way affects your use of swipes and gestures.

The Construction of the Case :

I don’t do drop tests, if you want that I suggest you check out MobileReviewEh on YouTube. He is excellent! Everything I review here I buy myself, I am a real world user and base my reviews on real world use – not chucking things against concrete or seeing how much pressure a screen can take from a drill or a punch! Although if someone wants to sponsor me to do such things feel free to get in touch!

In relation to this case it claims to be ‘12 foot military grade shock proof.’ What that means I have no idea, but I found this claim on their listing, and to be fair, that seems decent. I wouldn’t be panicking over the odd accidental drop.

In saying that, everything on this case works exactly as I would expect.

  • The cutouts for the charging port and speakers are accurate and precise. ✅
  • The buttons remain their integrity and ease of use, they press easily and maintain a tactile feeling, The camera control button works as expected with no issues encountered.
  • The screen is protected by a small and non-intrusive lip that keeps the screen off the surface you place it on. ✅
  • The case does not interfere with an installed screen shield (I have a Belkin installed from the Apple Store and it has no impact). ✅
  • The corners are slightly reinforced so ‘should’ offer more bump or drop protection should you have a moment of slippery grip. ✅
  • The case does not interfere with with any of the swiping gestures you will use when navigating the phone from either side, top or bottom. ✅
  • The case has the feel of soft touch plastics, it feels nice but yet still has a confident grip to it. ✅
  • The material and texture of the case allows it to slip effortlessly into your pocket and it doesn’t come out covered in lint or dust.✅
  • There are no over bearing logos. ✅
  • If you are careful this will not interfere with with an installed skin. Be careful around the edges. 🚨

The only concerns I have re this case are :

  • The exposure of the camera housing. That’s Apple’s fault though, this new design just needs a little adjustment period and a little more time and feedback to see how the anodised finishes are holding up in the real world and how having such a large section of the rear of the phone exposed permanently affects the finish.
  • The soft touch feel and material may degrade over time. I appreciate all cases will experience wear and tear and that’s why we buy them. However in fairness to TORRAS, the feel of this case is lovely, hopefully it stands the test of time.

Conclusion :

The TORRAS for iPhone 17 Pro Max Case with MagSafe is a good solid case for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Negating the exposed camera housing (which given its new design still has a long way to go to prove its durability whilst exposed) this case offers excellent protection with claimed drop testing and protection in excess of 3m. The feel of the soft touch case, accuracy of all cut outs and ports is enhanced by tactile feeling and clicky buttons and it has MagSafe compatibility.

Overall, it’s a strong, protective and affordable case that does not detract from the user experience and even throws in extra buttons to enable a little bit of personalisation. Not a bad way to spend £20.
