RRAI Insurance Update : 12/03/2025 :

The Road Race Alliance of Ireland have issued a statement today on the situation with their proposed insurance policy for road racing in the Republic of Ireland in 2025. It seems now that there will be no further comment issued regarding meetings between the RRAI and the MCI.

The statement reads as follows :

RRAI Information Update 12.03.2024

As noted before the RRAI would like to thank everyone for their support and encouragement since our news on securing an insurance policy for road races in the South. Over the last month, the RRAl made a conscious decision to limit the amount of information on social media and other channels of communication to provide our old governing body the time and space to announce their own insurance plans. The RRAI will not be addressing the MCI /RRAI meeting any further on social media as the main takeaway from the meeting was that no assistance would be offered by the MCI as “it was not in their interest”.

To clarify a few open questions :

  • The insurance policy that has been sourced is by a reputable broker, regulated by the relevant authorities.
  • The public liability meets the local council requirements for all road races within the Republic of Ireland
  • Our policy amount is under 400k for the public liability required including all government levies and taxes.
  • Our broker is willing to work with our organisation to insure other disciplines.
  • Our business plan is sound (please see prior documentation released).
  • The main goal of the RRAl is to ensure that our rich sporting heritage continues, and that we promote and develop the sport for all individuals involved.
  • Our board meets the Sports Council requirements for Women In Sport and we would hope that this example encourages more women to enter and stay in the sport.
  • All of the clubs involved in the RRAI have had independent safety assessments completed.

We will be announcing a fundraiser in the coming weeks to offset as much of the cost as possible on the riders and clubs.
