Manx Grand Prix Prizes : (Updated for 2024)
The Manx Grand Prix generally runs in August annually and features many of the competitors from the TT Event. It also features a much more diverse bike range and offers a path for new comers to get themselves a step closer to racing at the TT Event.
History :
The race began in 1923, as a replacement if the TT Races were moved off the Island. Started by the Manx Motorcycle Club, the race was originally named the ‘Amateur TT’ and used the TT Mountain Course over 5 laps. Raced by non professionals, but the term ‘Amateur’ really meant that the rider and stock machine had no manufacture support or reward. The first race had 33 entries each playing an entry fee less then a quarter the price for the TT. The winner of the Seniors Race received a trophy donated by the Mayor of Douglas, Ald. A.B. Crookall, MHK. This trophy is still presented to the winner today. The Motor Cycle Club donated the trophy for the 350cc.
Regulation changes in 1925 allowed any machine type to compete in the races. Donated the same year was the York Trophy awarded for outstanding merit. The Amateur TT was renamed to the Manx Grand Prix in 1930 and from then on it would only take competitors domiciled in the British Isles, which had not taken part in other international races. In 1967, the Manx Grand Prix became a National event, but it would not get a race of its own till 1999.
The Manx Grand Prix isn’t contested for the money. It may be a stepping stone to the TT however as an event it is full of history and prestige. The 2023 event marks the Centenary of the Manx Grand Prix and it is globally recognised as a pure road racing standalone event.

- THE CROMIE McCANDLESS TROPHY : best Irish resident
- THE NORRIE WHYTE TROPHY : best Scottish resident
- THE SEYMOUR TROPHY : best European resident
- THE HOGG TROPHY : best local resident making the fastest lap during the Manx Grand Prix
- THE WALLACE CUP : best local Newcomer
- THE GWEN CRELLIN COMMEMORATIVE TROPHY : to the rider making the best overall performance in the opinion of the Club Committee in the Classic Senior and Classic Superbike Races. who is not a winner of either race
- THE DICK LINTON TROPHY : to the rider who is a newcomer making the most meritorious performance in the opinion of the Club Committee during a Classic race.
- THE NAYLOR TROPHY : the rider making the fastest race time on a 4 stroke twin cylinder machine having an engine and frame of British manufacture in the Classic Senior race
- THE MULARNEY TROPHY : to the best British machine in the Classic Junior race.
MEDALS :
Medals will be awarded to the rider of the highest placed GP250 machine, Single Cylinder machine, Moto3 machine, SS400 machine and SS300 machine in the Lightweight race.
REPLICAS AND FINISHERS AWARDS :
MGP JUNIOR AND MGP SENIOR REPLICAS :
- Riders finishing within 105% of the winner’s time will be awarded a silver replica. Riders finishing within 110% of the winner’s time will be awarded a bronze replica.
CLASSIC SUPERBIKE, CLASSIC JUNIOR, CLASSIC SENIOR AND LIGHTWEIGHT REPLICAS :
- Riders finishing within 105% of the winner’s time will be awarded a silver replica.
- Riders finishing within 110% of the winner’s time will be awarded a bronze replica.
(If the winner is classified by the promoter as a TT rider, then MGP classified
riders will be awarded replicas based on the race time of the first MGP rider to
finish the race.)
ULTRA-LIGHTWEIGHT REPLICAS :
- Silver replicas will be awarded to those who achieve 105% of the winner of the Albert Moule trophy time. Bronze replicas will be awarded to those who achieve 110% of the winner of the Albert Moule trophy time.
(If the winner is classified by the promoter as a TT rider, then MGP classified
riders will be awarded replicas based on the race time of the first MGP rider to
finish the race.)
FINISHERS MEDALS :
Will be awarded to all other finishers.
