2022 Manx GP : New Details Confirmed :

NEW LOOK CONFIRMED FOR THE 2022 MGP:

The Manx Motor Cycle Club and Department for Enterprise have today confirmed plans for a ‘new look’ Manx Grand Prix in 2022. It follows a review undertaken by both organisations earlier this year, working closely with other stakeholders critical to the delivery of the event including the TT Marshals Association, Manx Road Racing Medical Services and ACU Events Ltd.

The review was designed to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Manx Grand Prix, which is set to celebrate its centenary in 2023. Factors considered as part of the review included: Analysis of the delivery costs and the benefits to the local economy, the impact road closures required to stage the event had on residents and businesses, safety risk management, the provision of sufficient marshalling cover for the full event duration, and fan, media and industry relevance, and the continuous need to attract new fans.

The new look for the event will bring to an end the use of the Classic TT designation, with a five-race programme planned featuring a range of classes for modern and classic machinery all held under the Manx Grand Prix title.

The Manx Grand Prix Races for modern machinery will be more closely aligned to the Isle of Man TT Races, with the Senior and Junior Races, for Supersport and Supertwin machines respectively, operating to similar (but not identical) specifications as seen at the TT, giving riders the opportunity to achieve their goals on the TT course.

2022 Mid Antrim 150 – Confirmed

The Mid Antrim 150 Club have announced via a Facebook Post that the 2022 Mid Antrim 150 Road Races will be run on 9th – 10th September 2022, and will mark the end of the 2022 Road Racing Season.

“On behalf of Midantrim150club as some people know we have been unable to officially release our dates for 2022 Midantrim150 road races due to clash of proposed dates with ugp and bc the difficulty’s the new promotors have had securing this event to the 2022 race calendar again . We can know confirm that 2022 Midantrim150 will return to clough circuit on 9/10 th September 2022 with a full 2 day event to end the ulster and Irish road race championship . We are hoping to see full grid of our top and up and coming stars return again to mid antrim roads for 2022 (sic).”

Oliver’s Mount 2021 Gold Cup Cancelled

Oliver’s Mount 2021 Gold Cup Cancelled :

Despite ongoing efforts to run this year’s Gold Cup, Oliver’s Mount have announced that this years Gold Cup will not go ahead. The Health and Safety issues around refurb needed at the Paddock could simply not be completed on time.

The most worrying aspect of this press release however comes from paragraph 3 :

We are totally committed to the future of Olivers Mount, but we now need to take stock of where this leaves Oliver’s Mount due to the financial hardship the last 2 seasons many cancellations have created.

I wish all the best to Oliver’s Mount at this very difficult time, and keep my fingers crossed that a resolution can be found. Road Racing has taken an absolute battering over the last two years and no Oliver’s Mount would mean no road racing at all in England. Sad and worrying times.

MCUI(UC) Suspends the Start of the 2021 Season:

The MCUI(UC) have issued a Press Release detailing the suspension to the start of the 2021 Calendar.

The Directors and Management of the Motorcycle Union of Ireland (Ulster Centre) Ltd have taken the unfortunate but unavoidable decision to suspend the start of the 2021 Sporting Event Calendar.

Due to the current fluid situation with Covid 19 restrictions combined with pressure on our NHS, we believe this is the only responsible decision we can make at this time. We will review the situation as and when Government restriction is eased. Currently we are taking all guidance, advice from The Northern Ireland Executive, Minster of Health, Department of Communities and SportNI.

Earlier this week two of our flagship’s events were cancelled due to the pandemic, Tandragee 100 and the NW200. The Cookstown 100 are planning on running again in September as they managed to do in 2020. Armoy Road Race club are still hopeful of running on their end of July date.

Our first tarmac event is now planned for 5th June at Kirkistown, the first round of the Ulster Superbike Championship (USBK) and with several more rounds planned between June & October.

The Trials section had already planned to run into the summer months and will release more details in due course.

2020 was almost a wipe out of all our events with only one Road Race and one short circuit managing to run between the restriction and only with authority from Government departments. This announcement will be very disappointing for our Licence holders, Clubs, and supporters, but we must do what is best to keep everyone in the communities safe.

MCUI UC MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE STATEMENT UPDATE ON COVID 19 RESUMPTION OF MCUI UC COMPETITION 23rd JULY 2020

Basically we can go racing again!

The Directors of the MCUI UC (the Management Committee) wish to update all our licence holders, clubs and members of the current situation regarding a return to competition as the NI Executive are easing restrictions on an increasingly frequent basis.

We have received permission from the Department for Communities and Sport NI to resume competitive motorcycle racing again, including spectators (as long as they can be controlled).

This is extremely welcome news. However, it is vitally important that everyone complies with the social distancing and hygiene measures outlined in our guidance document (click here) and track and trace protocols.

Event promoters will be required to complete an event specific COVID 19 Risk Assessment that outlines the measures they will put in place to respond to these exceptional circumstances.

The MCUI UC would like to thank everyone at SportNI, Department for Communities and NI Sports Forum for their assistance during this emergency.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding in these extraordinary times, we are making progress together, but remember please, stay safe.

2020 Cookstown Races Cause Contention?

So far the entire Irish, Northern Irish and Manx Road Racing Season has been completely cancelled, with one exception – the 2020 Cookstown 100.

The Cookstown Club have always said that their 2020 event was postponed, rather than cancelled, and have recently confirmed that they are looking at running the event on 11th and 12 September 2020, however have also stated that it will most likely be a restricted numbers and ticket only event.

This is where the contention arises. From my own reading most people have been positive about it – welcoming the thought of a 2020 event, citing it as something to look forward too after what has been a reasonably horrendous 2020, for many, so far.

Others feel differently, suggesting running the event could put the Health Service under undue stress and pressure and having a gathering of people, or even planning such a gathering with the global and local pandemic still at a very dangerous point is just not wise.

Personally I am still on the fence.

If (supported by science and health advice) the event can be run safely, adhering to any restrictions still imposed by law and more importantly incorporating good common sense and have full medical cover – then why not?

2021 Southern 100 Dates :

It seems to me that the entire 2020 so far has been spent posting about events being cancelled – and to be fair the entire 2020 so far has been spent posting about events being cancelled!

So, without further ado here is some good news. The Provisional Dates for the 2021 Southern 100 events have been announced.

Southern 100 Racing are extremely grateful to our Title Sponsors Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, Blackford Financial Services and Silicone Engineering Racing who are carrying forward their 2020 support to next year, similarly our race sponsors have intimated that their much-valued sponsorship will be in place for 2021.

The 2018 Northern Ireland Motorcycle Festival (MotorcycleFest) ran at the Eikon Centre, Lisburn from Friday 2nd February 2018 – Sunday 4th February 2018. The event has been running at the Eikon Centre since 2016 and seems to be going from strength to strength.
