Friday’s qualifying session is over (03/05/2019) and we really were treated to a great start to the 2019 Tandragee 100.  Maybe a little bit chilly, but other than that it was dry, bright and just a little breezy.

A full evening of 8 practice and qualifying sessions has laid out what is bound to be a great Race Day tomorrow.  Derek McGee showing his class again with three pole positions lined up for tomorrow and don’t forget Derek Shiels, Adam McLean and Michael Sweeney who have all showed their intentions are are snapping at McGee’s heels!

Another great and welcome surprise was that of Guy Martin and his 750 Custom BSA, which will be running in the Classics.  Guy has always said he loved Tandragee and he has shown that love with an appearance at this year’s event and looking at the times he has been laying down he wants on that podium and is about 3 seconds off the top spot on it!

When things got running after the roads closed they never stopped.  A full Practice and Qualifying Session ran pretty much seamlessly with one one race incident in which Robert McCrum came off his Monosport in the evening’s final qualifying session.  lick edit button to change this text. 2019 Cookstown 100 Results

The 2019 Irish Road Racing Season got off to a flying start at Cookstown over 26th and 27 April 2019.

With Storm Hannah still showing her venom bringing heavy rain and strong winds right up to the latter part of the morning, the fact that the Cookstown club managed to run a full program is even more impressive.  A great days racing that was unfortunately finished just a little bit to early as the feature race, the eight lap Cookstown 100, was red flagged on its first attempt due to weather – resulting in a five lap restarted race – which was red flagged due to a race incident.

More importantly though no one was seriously hurt over the event and even though the final race was red flagged there was a full schedule and pretty constant day of all day racing.

Guess who decided to match that flying start?  Yep, Derek McGee, Derek Shiels, Adam McLean and Michael Sweeney! All were lapping in the Superbike race within 0.3s of each other and less than a single second separated the four at the end of an unfortunately red flagged race (twice).

There was a little bit of chopping and changing off the schedule over the day due to the ever changing weather conditions.  Something which the organisations managed really well and a lesson others could learn well:

Get the right bikes out at the right time as the conditions allow.

Remember the only red flag due to weather that we had was in the final race.  This was in a  day that the only precipitation we didn’t have was probably snow!

Only two of the planned four races 2019 ran tonight after the weather closed in on Cookstown.  We have literally had a scorching Easter period in Northern Ireland this year and then for the first day of road racing it decides to change to the exact opposite of what we had and get wet, miserable and cold.  Things are to get even worse overnight with the approaching ‘Storm Hannah‘

However – don’t panic just yet – it looks like things will improve a little – it’ll not be glorious – but it will hopefully be dry tomorrow for race day!

This is the timeline for 26/04/2019 – 27/04/2019 – so it looks like a wet night and a wet start but things should improve in the later part of the morning.

The Irish Road Racing Season is officially back!  The 2019 season is, as is customary, kicked off with the Cookstown 100.  Today is the dominated by Practice and Qualifying and a few races to wrap the night up.

Qualifying has just finished so here are all the results and timings that will set things up for tomorrow’s race day!

It’s great to be back on the roads, and here’s to a safe, incident free and exciting 2019 for all riders, teams, events, marshals, spectators, fans, teams… you get it – here’s to 2019!

Sunday 9th August 2018 – the final race day for the Irish National Road Racing Calendar and it took us to Killalane for the 2018 East Coast Racing Festival sponsored by – strangely enough – Mrs Brown’s Boys.  Fair play though Brown’s seemed to get right into the spirit of things coming up with a funky wee logo and and even more funky bus…

It also say the return to the roads of Derek McGee who just one month ago was knocked out of action at the Ulster Grand Prix at Dundrod…

If we remove that slight hiccup from the equation the result is Derek McGee taking 15 wins from 15 races – a phenomenal achievement and one well worthy of a round of applause – !applause!

It didn’t come easy though as throughout the final Derek Shiels was snapping at his heels on the Cookstown Burrows Engineering bike taking second place by a mere 0.185s!  The third place podium went to Michael Sweeney, Paul Jordan taking fourth.

2018 Classic TT Results

2018 Classic TT Results
Sharing the Festival of Motorsport with the Manx Grand Prix means you share the good and the bad.  The good being the obvious – 2 glorious weeks of Motorcycle Racing, this year the bad was the weather.  Fog and rain plagued the early stages of the event with practices being severely limited.

The sessions did get run.  Extra road closures were put in place to maximise the competitors’ time on the circuit and as usual the organisers, Marshals, Medical Staff… all had to step up in difficult circumstances.  They all did and as you can see from the results and timings below we got some excellent racing.  

John McGuinness made his debut back in competitive racing (following his 2017 North West 200 crash) showing that without doubt he has still got it – taking the win in the Senior Classic on the Paton and also taking the fastest lap at an average speed of 110.676 mph.

Dean Harrison continued with the form he had from earlier this year in the Isle of Man at the TT Races taking the Superbike win with a fastest lap of 126.041 mph.

It’s the final day of the Northern Irish Road Racing Calendar, and it’s one of the biggest – The 2018 Ulster Grand Prix Saturday Race Day. 

This article is being written real time during the event, in a new approach for me, it may work it may not.  So I welcome your comments and input either way.  That should explain why things may bounce about a little, but if it works I may use it in the future as a sort of live blog…

The day got off to an absolutely flying start with Peter Hickman showing once again that he is the fastest road racer on the planet and had his eyes firmly fixed on breaking more records – breaching 200 mph at the Flying Kilo speedtrap…

The previous best was held by William Dunlop #6 (RIP) at a still whopping 200.4 mph.

2018 Ulster Grand Prix : Results – Thursday 9th August 2018

The last road race meeting in Northern Ireland for the year is underway at Dundrod in the form of the Ulster Grand Prix and as usual we have all the results from every race right here for you.

Unfortunately during Thursday’s session we lost Derek McGee and Seamus Elliot (who have both suffered suspected broken bones) Derek McGee was flying through the last couple of meetings – at Fuagheen he had recently made it 14 out of 14!

A few more riders suffered spills but most importantly none suffered any serious injuries.David Murphy came off at Dawson’s, Davo Johnston at the hairpin, a red flag halted the action in the first 600 race due to rain and Joey Thompson suffered a high side.

On a much more positive note Conor Cummins took the Supersport race in outstanding style and Adam McLean dedicated his Supertwin win to James Cowton.  Neil Kernohan and Christian Elkin took the honours in the hotly contested lightweight categories.

2018 Armoy Road Races – ‘The Race of Legends’ : Results

Armoy takes up back up towards the North Coast of Northern Ireland, and this year marks the 10th anniversary of the ‘Race of Legends.’

Run over two days the Armoy races consists of a Friday Practice Day (with 2 races at the end of the day) and then Saturday Race Day which was scheduled for 11 Races.  

Unfortunately that was not to be.  

The Saturday Racing was abandoned due to truly atrocious weather.
