Alastair Seeley Back for 2025 North West 200 :

A press release from the Official NW200 Facebook Page has confirmed that the Wee Wizard, Alastair Seeley, AS34, will return on a SMS / Nicholl Oils Racing M1000RR BMW.

The most successful North West 200 racer of all-time, Alastair Seeley #AS34 will return to action at the 2025 Briggs Equipment sponsored races on May 5-10 on a SMS/ Nicholl Oils Racing M1000RR BMW.

The Carrickfergus racer sat out last year’s event after failing to secure competitive machinery for the north coast event but the 45 year old now has his sights set on achieving a landmark 30th race win from this year’s two Superstock and three Superbike races aroundthe 8.9 mile Triangle course.

‘The main thing for me is that I am coming back on what I feel will be a competitive machine.’ Seeley explained during the north coast event’s launch in Belfast.

Seeley is already familiar with the BMW having steered the same bike to victory in Synetiq livery during both the Briggs Equipment and CP Hire Superstock races at Portrush in 2023. He also finished third overall on the M1000RR in that year’s British Superstock series before the BMW was used by teammate, David Allingham during last season’s Superstock series.

‘It is my old bike and I expect it to be competitive at the North West.’ Seeley smiled.

‘It is a fast bike and speed works at the NW200. I will have a new crew to get used to and I will have to get dialled in and re-learn the bike but the year out makes me hungry and ready to come back and prove that I should never have been away.’

Plans are already in place to ensure Seeley has the time on the bike he has always demanded as part of his preparation for the north coast races.

‘We will be doing the pre-season BSB tests and there are also plans to take in some Spanish testing as well.’ Seeley revealed.

‘I need that time on the bike so I don’t arrive rusty at the North West. I am back in full training mode because I want to add more North West wins to the 29 I already have. The 30th win is a huge landmark and a big goal for me. I always said if I could match my race number- 34- in North West wins I would hang up the boots but being realistic I am five away from that so a 30th win is what I am looking for now. I want to come back with a bang and see if we can do it in May.’

For Seeley’s team bosses, Steven McShane and Gary Nicholl, securing the Carrick racers services has been a work in progress which has finally come to fruition. They both describe it as ‘a dream come true’.

‘I never thought I would be in this position.’ utilities contractor McShane, said.

‘We were working on this deal for last year but it all came just too late. Now it will happen in 2025 and if Alastair gets that 30th victory it will be the stuff that dreams are made of.’

‘It is really special to have someone of Alastair’s calibre on our bike at the North West.’ Gary Nicholl, the former title sponsor of the north coast event, echoed.

‘Alastair is already the NW200’s most successful rider and if he can get that 30th win it could be something that might never be achieved by anyone else.’

The team’s new signing will be on a bike he is familiar with and one he already knows will be competitive but McShane and Nicholl have also hinted they may have another card up their sleeve for Seeley in terms of an extra boost in horsepower.

News of Seeley’s return to North West 200 action is music to the ears of race boss, Mervyn Whyte.

‘Alastair Seeley’s record at the North West 200 speaks for itself and everyone involved with the event is delighted to have him back on the grid on board top class machinery that is capable of providing him with a famous victory.’ Mervyn Whyte, said.

‘Although there will be plenty of competition, Alastair is definitely capable of producing a fairytale result that would thrill the fans.’
