Dunlop Dominates and Todd Triumphs as North West 200 Explodes into Action!

Portrush, Northern Ireland – May 8th, 2025 – The iconic North West 200 roared back to life today under sun-kissed skies, treating thousands of expectant fans lining the famous Triangle circuit to a spectacular evening of road racing.

Thursday’s three-race schedule delivered high drama, blistering speeds, and emotional victories, setting an electrifying tone for the weekend ahead.

Michael Dunlop sensationally marked his return to the top step with a stunning double, while Davey Todd etched his name into NW200 folklore with a maiden Superbike win.

The atmosphere was palpable as bikes thundered off the line for the opening encounters of the 2025 Briggs Equipment North West 200, and the action did not disappoint.

Race 1: Todd Claims Maiden Premier Class Glory in Milwaukee Superbike Thriller

The evening kicked off with the much-anticipated 4-lap Milwaukee Superbike Race, and it was Davey Todd who sensationally seized his first-ever North West 200 Superbike victory. The BMW rider was in imperious form, mastering the high-speed straights and technical chicanes to the delight of the crowd.

It was a hard-fought battle, with Todd holding off intense pressure throughout.

Dean Harrison, mounted on the Honda Racing UK machine, was a constant threat, pushing Todd all the way to the chequered flag and finishing a mere 0.215 seconds adrift.

Peter Hickman, Todd’s esteemed teammate, secured a strong third place, making it a memorable outing for the BMW contingent.

Michael Dunlop, despite a challenging qualifying session earlier in the day, brought his MD Hawk Racing BMW home in a solid fourth.

Race 2: Dunlop Ends Victory Drought with Masterful Fraser Homes Supersport Win

The Fraser Homes Supersport Race witnessed a hugely popular home victory as Michael Dunlop, aboard his MD Racing Ducati Panigale V2, ended a North West 200 win drought that stretched back to 2016. It was a tactical masterclass from the Ballymoney man in a race filled with tension.

Richard Cooper, on the BPE by Russell Racing Yamaha, looked like the man to beat for large portions of the 4-lap contest, his machine proving exceptionally quick in a straight line. However, Dunlop, showing his renowned race craft, bided his time before making a decisive move on the final lap, powering past Cooper on the run to Magherabuoy chicane. Once in front, Dunlop didn’t look back, taking the chequered flag by a tight 0.378 seconds and even setting a new lap record for the class in the process.

Davey Todd backed up his earlier Superbike success with a fine third place on the Milenco by Padgett’s Motorcycles Honda, with Dean Harrison again in the mix, finishing fourth.

Despite an earlier spill in qualifying, Dunlop showed no ill effects as he powered his BMW to a commanding victory. He took the win by 2.659 seconds, a testament to his skill and the preparation of his team.

Dean Harrison capped a consistent evening with his second runner-up finish of the day aboard the Honda Racing Fireblade, once again showcasing his pace.

A significant story unfolded behind him as Ian Hutchinson clinched a superb third place, giving Michael Laverty’s new MLAV Racing BMW team its first-ever North West 200 podium – a fantastic achievement for the fledgling outfit.

Davey Todd rounded out an excellent day’s work with a fourth-place finish.
