Working towards the race
The Cookstown & District Motor Cycle Club have confirmed, that, the postponed race meeting, will now take place on Friday and Saturday 11th/12th September.
Following the recent COVID 19 updates, the club is now in the position to put the final touches to their plans for what will be the Only road race to take place in 2020.
For the event to take place, the Club has taken a sensible and responsible approach, working with Sport NI and other various bodies, which will result in some significant changes.
Spectator numbers will be restricted to 1000 on Friday and 1600 on Saturday, and will only be allowed in designated areas.
The KDM Hire Cookstown 100 will be a “Closed Event”, a successful online Booking system has been in operation, which has enabled the organizers to follow the strict guidelines put in place by Department for Communities & NI Sports Forum.
A race programme which will include a unique wristband will be posted out to everyone who has used the Booking system
Only those with a Wristband will gain access
There will be 10 designated spectator areas located around the 1.7 mile circuit. These areas will allow a maximum number of spectators in each so that any regulations in respect to mass gatherings in one area can be maintained and managed.
It has been a busy 24 hrs for the Cookstown 100 Team and following the announcement in relation to competitors we now have further news in relation to spectators and how getting a ticket for the 2020 Cookstown 100 will work.
The following has been released (24th June 2020) in relation to spectating at this years scheduled event :
** SPECTATOR ANNOUNCEMENT**
As previously announced, Cookstown 100 will be run as a closed event this year and will have to run with limited numbers of spectators allowed to be present at the event, whilst this will not please everyone, it is the only possible way in which the event will be allowed to be ran and we ask that such decision is respected as it is not within the club power to over turn this decision!
From today spectators can make use of our online booking system to obtain packages as follows for the event.
2 day package which includes – A programme with a wristband attached, club badge plus postage – £25
1 day Friday package which includes – A programme with a Friday wristband attached plus postage – £17.50
1 day Saturday package which includes – A programme with a Saturday wristband attached plus postage – £17.50
For those who wish to purchase a programme but do not wish to attend, these can also be purchased for £17.50 which includes postage.
Kids under 13 will not be charged when accompanied by an adult. We do ask for numbers of kids attending when booking.
WRISTBANDS WILL NOT BE SOLD SEPARATELY.
There is a very limited amount of spectators allowed,and the online booking system is on a first come first served basis, so it is up to public to secure their packages as the club cannot issue any further when the numbers are reached. Nor will any member of the club reserve any of the above packages for anyone.
To book any of the above packages, go to PayPal and make purchase through sending payment to [email protected] and using friend option.
Please verify which package you whish to purchase ie. 1day Friday package or 1 day Saturday package at time of purchase, please confirm your name and address also at time of purchase.
When the programmes are printed, all packages will be sent out in August to everyone who has purchased and booked online.

I’m sure most if not all competitors following the Official Cookstown 100 Channels, however I am also aware that sometimes information gets missed or bypassed especially in the world of social medial and thumb scrolling. So just in case – it does no harm to repost information to make sure it gets to the right people at the right time.
So in saying that the Cookstown 100 Club have issued a very important statement for all competitors hoping to race at the 2020 Cookstown 100, currently scheduled for September 2020.
Basically if you want to race, now is the time to get your entry sorted, yep right now.
**IMPORTANT COMPETITOR INFORMATION** Official Statement Released 23rd June 2020 :
Due to limited numbers of Competitors allowed to compete at the 2020 Cookstown 100 event, ALL competitors must send FULL PAYMENT of entry fees by the 17th July 2020. Cheques must be sent and allow time to be received before this date and online payments will be available from tomorrow Wednesday the 23rd June via PayPal (using the friend option) at [email protected]
This must be done by all competitors so the club can free up spaces for other riders who wish to enter, if those entered already do not make full payment by the above date so that the maximum number of Competitors allowed at event can be obtained on the day.
All riders who wish to check how much they have to pay contact race Secretary Norman Crooks on 02886764168/07900357982 before sending payment via PayPal or by sending cheque through post.
NO CASH ACCEPTED ON THE DAY. ALL payments must be received by the 17th of July 2020 or your place will be given to another competitor. NO EXCEPTIONS will be made for late payments.

MCUI(UC) Press Release : Motorcycle Union of Ireland (Ulster Centre)
It appears the to and fro between Ireland’s motorcycle sports governing bodies continues.
On the 19th May 2020 the Cookstown Club announced that they hoped to hold their postponed Cookstown 100 event on 11th and 12th September 2020. This was met with a reasonably mixed reaction from the public. The two sides of the coin were :
a. This is a good thing, if conditions around the current coronavirus issues allow it, it will mean bikes racing in 2020 and will give people something to look forward to after what has been a very disrupted year due to the cover-19 pandemic.
b. This is a bad thing, it will put people at risk and add stress to the NHS. People have accepted that 2020 will have no racing so why try and push this through and risk the public’s health.
Then on 22nd May 2020 The Motorcycling Union of Ireland issued a statement. In which they stated that they were ‘alarmed and annoyed to read that some individual organising clubs within the MCUI (Ulster Centre) are still intending to promote events in this current climate.’ Motorcycle Ireland continued… ‘They do not have the authority or support of the Motor Cycle Union of Ireland to promote these events in 2020.’
Obviously this caused further discontent and controversy over the planned 2020 Cookstown 100 event, with the supporters of points (a) and (b) above becoming more polarised. National newspapers ran with the story bringing the issues surrounding the event and the MCUI to the forefront of public view. Newsletter and Belfast Telegraph.
This is where the contention arises. From my own reading most people have been positive about it – welcoming the thought of a 2020 event, citing it as something to look forward too after what has been a reasonably horrendous 2020, for many, so far.
Others feel differently, suggesting running the event could put the Health Service under undue stress and pressure and having a gathering of people, or even planning such a gathering with the global and local pandemic still at a very dangerous point is just not wise.
Personally I am still on the fence.
If (supported by science and health advice) the event can be run safely, adhering to any restrictions still imposed by law and more importantly incorporating good common sense and have full medical cover – then why not?
The Cookstown Club have released a further statement in relation to the 2020 Event and at the moment it is still full steam ahead…
* Cookstown 2020 Race Update *
The directors of CDMCC held a meeting this evening in regards to the organisation and preparation for our event scheduled to be held on the 11th & 12th of September 2020.
After discussions with various organisations, it was agreed at the meeting that the club will be running the event with various restrictions in place for 2020.
Due to restrictions which will still be in effect at the timing of when event is due to be held.. One tough decision the club have had to make is to run the event as a closed event, with restricted Spectator numbers to accommodate social distancing regulations, allowing limited numbers in vantage points throughout the course. Online pre booked wristband will be available in due coarse.
We as a club would prefer to have our event run as normal, but in these trying times, we have to take various decisions and make changes for this year at least, to try and bring some road racing for the riders and spectators in 2020 all be it in limited circumstances. But we will continue to work with various organisations and keep the public up to date with any decisions made.
Riders will be aware their entry’s for April will carry forward to September date, and for anyone else who wishes to send their entry’s in, the closing date will be the 18th of July.
As a club we will remain committed to bring some racing in 2020,until we are told otherwise.

Maybe, just maybe we may get to see bikes on the roads this year after all.
In attempt to quell rumours and paddock whispers the Cookstown Club have issued a Press Release confirming that they are pursuing the 11th & 12th September 2020 as Provisional Dates for their 2020 event.
Obviously there are huge ‘ifs and buts’ around any event at the moment, but the Statement from the Club shows their line of thought and the potential measures that could be put in place for the safe running of the event.

**UPDATE ON 2020 RACE**
After spending the morning reading utter rubbish posted online I think it’s time for an update from the ACTUAL organising people.
Our plans still remain the same to run on the 11th & 12th of September 2020. We have sought our Road Closing Order and our Permit from Mcui UC on the above date. The club continues behind the scenes to put in place, pre book and arrange everything that it takes and that is needed for our event to take place on the above date. The club could have cancelled this year, but it continues to prepare for September to give riders and spectators something to look forward to in the midst of these hard times.
Although we will be taking advice and direction from various organisations and will have to abide by any legislation currently in place at the time of event, we are hopeful that with graduate eases of restrictions due to commence in ROI that NI Executive may also align with the these measures,and we will get to provide both riders a venue to get a spin out in 2020 and spectators a chance to see some racing from the guys who always put on a great show.
As no one knows exactly how this will all work or what the situation will be at the time of event. We as a club will do everything we can, right up to the last to try to make this happen in September.
A possible other option which is being looked at is, that if the event can be run with limited numbers directed by government, that the club will provide an online booking system, to which spectators will be able to pre book access to the event. This will only be an option and put in place if directed by relevant organisations.
I hope this clarifys to the public that we are continuing to push forward with the organising of the event and do everything in our power to bring the Cookstown 100 in 2020.

Derek McGee looking for another win at the 2019 Cookstown 100
The 2019 Cookstown 100 was a cracking’ event, even though the weather didn’t play nice.
Next up is the 2019 Tandragee 100 – practice and qualifying starts tomorrow – followed by Race Day on Saturday (04/05/2019).
So to wet your appetite and have a quick look back at last week, here are a few images from the 2019 Cookstown 100. (Apologies – the quality could be better but due to other commitments I was restricted to just using my camera phone .

The 2019 Irish Road Racing Season got off to a flying start at Cookstown over 26th and 27 April 2019.
With Storm Hannah still showing her venom bringing heavy rain and strong winds right up to the latter part of the morning, the fact that the Cookstown club managed to run a full program is even more impressive. A great days racing that was unfortunately finished just a little bit to early as the feature race, the eight lap Cookstown 100, was red flagged on its first attempt due to weather – resulting in a five lap restarted race – which was red flagged due to a race incident.

More importantly though no one was seriously hurt over the event and even though the final race was red flagged there was a full schedule and pretty constant day of all day racing.
Guess who decided to match that flying start? Yep, Derek McGee, Derek Shiels, Adam McLean and Michael Sweeney! All were lapping in the Superbike race within 0.3s of each other and less than a single second separated the four at the end of an unfortunately red flagged race (twice).

There was a little bit of chopping and changing off the schedule over the day due to the ever changing weather conditions. Something which the organisations managed really well and a lesson others could learn well:
Get the right bikes out at the right time as the conditions allow.
Remember the only red flag due to weather that we had was in the final race. This was in a day that the only precipitation we didn’t have was probably snow!

The results as published below represent the running order from the Official Race Program – along with the races that got carried over from the Friday evening session as well.
Only two of the planned four races 2019 ran tonight after the weather closed in on Cookstown. We have literally had a scorching Easter period in Northern Ireland this year and then for the first day of road racing it decides to change to the exact opposite of what we had and get wet, miserable and cold. Things are to get even worse overnight with the approaching ‘Storm Hannah‘
However – don’t panic just yet – it looks like things will improve a little – it’ll not be glorious – but it will hopefully be dry tomorrow for race day!
This is the timeline for 26/04/2019 – 27/04/2019 – so it looks like a wet night and a wet start but things should improve in the later part of the morning.
