The Ulster Covenant 1912 – 2012

Today celebrates the centenary of the Ulster Covenant in Northern Ireland. The Covenant was signed in 1912 by almost 500,000 people to express their opposition to Home Rule.

Today will see almost 30,000 marchers and supports of the Covenant and orange order descend upon Belfast to march all around the city in the largest open air parade for over 20 years.

Good luck and have a good day to all those involved.

It is also a highly contentious march that having looked at twitter already looks like there are already trouble makers around looking to stoke the fires of the past and cause as much disruption as they can, of course partnered with the traditional Belfast riot.

Therefore lets all hope that calm rules today and this event does not become a media frenzy on the trouble that can still dominate Belfast.

Oh and if you would like to sign the Covenant you can do so 100 years later at Ulster Covenant 2012 – Sign here

21st September 2012 – iPhone 5 Launch Day – Unboxing and Quick Thoughts!

Any Apple Launch Day now is a big one, and this one was the biggest so far.  Queues have been reported as 83% bigger for this release of the iPhone 5 than they were for last years iPhone 4s’ event.

I have to agree with this, as I opted to sleep in a little as last year wasn’t really that much of an issue, so when I arrived at the queue this morning at a little after 05.30 am at the Apple Store, Victoria Square, Belfast I was horrified and also a little impressed to see no less than 300 people already in the queue!

At shortly after 11am I left the store with a little bag containing a white 32Gb iPhone 5 – Sweet!

And that is exactly what it is – SWEET!

Scoobfest 2012 – 22nd July 2012 – Junction One, Antrim

Scoobfest is the biannual car show run by Irish Subaru website, ScoobyIreland.com and it brings Subarus from across the country all together to show off their stuff.  It has made its home at the Junction One Retail Park in Antrim and as such promises stunning motors, an easy to get to location and something many car shows lack, something for the ladies – shopping!

This year it was joined by a few other websites, namely the Celica Owners Club, NI-Vaux, Irish Subaru Drivers Club, Subaru Driver’s Club Northern Ireland and the Mitsubishi Lancer Register.

The result of all this was a fantastic set of motors all in one spot!

This is a Charity event and this time round all proceeds from the show went to Cool FM / Downtown Radios ‘Cash For Kids’ Appeal, a great local charity!  As well as this over £1000 in prizes were up for grabs, and in relation to those here are the results from the day :

Northern Ireland 12th July 2012 Celebrations / Riots

So it is the 12 July again and that means it is time for rioting across Northern Ireland and moreso Belfast and the Ardoyne shops.

This basically comes down to the Loyal Orange Order wanting to match along their traditional route. The Nationalists then claim that this area is not supportive of an oppressive march and it is not welcome.

Result – A Stand off.

So what has now become a yearly event the Nationalists attack the police who are trying to separate them from the Loyalists.

Today there were determinations ruled by the Parades Commission that meant the LOL had to be finished by 4pm. They did this. Then the Nationalists would have a counter demonstration, however before this happened the riots began.

These riots have lead to #Belfast and #Ardoyne trending on twitter! A real shame in this 2012, our year, our place, our time.

We have let ourselves and each other down a lot this year.

I could go on and on about this but I want to keep it straight and to the facts do that is them. I have amassed a full collection of photos from the day which I will get up later, but really people – wise up your are destroying your own communities and raising tensions when in this day and age there should be none!

Well the Extreme Stunt Show has left Northern IReland after a flat out tour of the Country. So I think it is safe enough for me to put the picks up now, without the chances of spoiling it for anyone.

If however you are in Europe elsewhere and the show hasn’t reached you, you may want to look away now…

Coming Soon – Extreme Stunt Show Gallery

If you live in Northern Ireland you have without a doubt seen the posters up in every town across the country for this ‘Extreme Stunt Show.’  I was really dubious about how a stunt show could be mobile and good, I had a vision of a poor circus, with people who couldn’t give a ^*&?> about the show, and well it’s mobile so how can it be any good.  Regardless I went to the Extreme Stunt Show more out of curiosity to see how bad it could be.

And I am happy to say I was WRONG!  This is a great day, with really skilled guys doing really crazy things!  If you get the chance to go, do so and you’ll enjoy it.  I mean skilled and crazy, and that’s a damn good combination!

I have a full Gallery to share in relation to this and a video!  WOO HOO! Yes indeed a video!  Now it is my first attempt at a video so don’t expect too much, but it is just a taster.

Finally there is a good chance these guys will have left Northern Ireland by the time the Gallery and video are up, so once again if you get the chance to go check them out, do it, and then come back here to remember it!

Oh and as you will see I got a glorious sunny day, actually got a little burnt, but with the crazy ass weather we are getting at the moment, keep you fingers crossed for a nice day, as with any outdoor event I can imagine the rain could really put a dampener on things!

Oh and if you are not in Northern Ireland I believe these guys are touring Europe all summer long!

Full Gallery and Video COMING SOON!
