2019 Tandragee 100 Photos : (Qualifying & Race Day)

2019 Tandragee 100
2019 Tandragee 100

You are bound to already know that the 2019 Tandragee 100 was a cracker.

Derek McGee took four wins, Derek Shiels nipping the 1st Superbike Open Race from him in a day that was full of duels and mass brawls all down the grid.

The weather was glorious – maybe a little chilly for the weaker amongst us, but all in all glorious.  The event was smoothly run without any major hiccups.

Again due to other commitments I was restricted to using the camera phone again but I have uploaded the useable photos.

Maybe you will see your favourite racer, maybe you will see yourself.  I appreciate the quality certainly isn’t professional but if see something you want to use, please do so – just don’t claim it to be your own.  That is all I ask.

What a day!

Wall to wall sunshine and huge crowds brought the 2019 Tandragee 100 to life, and the amazing racing – all day – along with some superb organisation made it an event to remember!

As soon as racing started it flowed almost perfectly with only one slight delay to clean up a minor oil spill and one further unfortunate delay following a race incident in which Adam McLean was separated from his machine in what was a really hotly contested battle between himself and Derek McGee – Their fastest laps were only separated by a mere 0.122s!

More importantly Adam is doing well and I would like to wish him a very speedy recovery and return the roads.  The talent he had on display here this weekend was simply astounding!

Adam is in the Royal Hospital Belfast after an accident in the Supertwin race. He has arm, shoulder & pelvic injuries but is in really good spirits and making jokes in the hospital. So proud of the lad. 22 years old and pushing to win these races against way more experienced guys pic.twitter.com/xGE71OJKAY

It was another phenomenal day for Derek McGee, taking 4 race wins, Derek Shiels taking the ‘McCrum’s Motorcycles Aprilla Open Superbike Race‘ from him at the line in an amazing race nipping McGee to that victory by 0.4 seconds.

McGee got his own back though in the ‘Around A Pound Tandragee 100 Final‘ – with Shiels leading until the final lap McGee managed to nip back just before the line taking the victory with 0.195 seconds to spare!

Crowd favourite (and one of mine), Guy Martin, was out on his Classic Bullet 3 BSA and raced really well, taking second on the road behind Dean Stimpson (in a great battle that lasted the entire race), and winning his class in the ‘Millside Engineering / R Heatrick / W McCombe / Woolsey Concrete Classic.

It was great to see Tandragee buzzing – hopefully there were a few new spectators who came along, because if that was your first road race experience you should be hooked.  Tandragee 2019 had it all – loads of racing, minimal unavoidable delays, great structure and awesome weather.

2019 Tandragee 100 Practice Session

2019 Tandragee 100

Friday’s qualifying session is over (03/05/2019) and we really were treated to a great start to the 2019 Tandragee 100.  Maybe a little bit chilly, but other than that it was dry, bright and just a little breezy.

A full evening of 8 practice and qualifying sessions has laid out what is bound to be a great Race Day tomorrow.  Derek McGee showing his class again with three pole positions lined up for tomorrow and don’t forget Derek Shiels, Adam McLean and Michael Sweeney who have all showed their intentions are are snapping at McGee’s heels!

Another great and welcome surprise was that of Guy Martin and his 750 Custom BSA, which will be running in the Classics.  Guy has always said he loved Tandragee and he has shown that love with an appearance at this year’s event and looking at the times he has been laying down he wants on that podium and is about 3 seconds off the top spot on it!

When things got running after the roads closed they never stopped.  A full Practice and Qualifying Session ran pretty much seamlessly with one one race incident in which Robert McCrum came off his Monosport in the evening’s final qualifying session.  lick edit button to change this text. Dario Cecconi – Road Racer – Rest in Peace.

Today (25/04/2017) it was tragically announced that Italian Road Racer, Dario Cecconi, succumbed to injuries received at the Tandragee 100 on Saturday 22nd April 2017.

Rest in Peace / Ride in Peace Dario.

PRESS RELEASE 11 TANDRAGEE 100 2017

25th APRIL 2017

STATEMENT REGARDING DARIO CECCONI

The North Armagh Motorcycle & Car Club (Tarmac Section) Ltd deeply regrets to announce that Dario Cecconi, a 38 year old competitor from Italy, who sustained serious injuries after the chequered flag had gone out for the Senior Support Race on Saturday 22nd April 2017 has succumbed to his injuries.

Dario was a much loved competitor, who called the Tandragee 100 his ‘home’, did much to promote the Tandragee 100 across Europe and even had a tattoo of the Tandragee 100 Course on his arm. Dario started racing for fun at track days in Tuscany on a 600cc Suzuki and at the end of 2009, he decided that road racing was what he wanted to concentrate on. On the 12th June 2010, Dario set out on his first road race, Carpasio-Pratipiani.

When Dario first came to Tandragee in 2012 and was asked for his opinion of Irish Road Racing he replied “I completely fell in love with the Irish Road Racing World! I like the riders, the courses, the spectators and everyone in and around the paddock…I come in my van, by myself, for about 45 hours only to travel 45 hours back home again and I love it. There is a special atmosphere we can find only there. No other tracks give us this thrill, and no other meetings give us the sense of being part of a family.”

When asked what makes him love racing, he gave what can only be described as an honest answer, “When I race, I feel free – I do not think, just act or react. It’s a sort of trance and it is absolutely amazing. I feel at home and calm when I have my helmet on and the visor down, it’s hard to explain…everything is natural.”

Dario will be very sadly missed by the Club. Dario was an experienced competitor who had competed in a number of Irish Road Races; this year being his 6th year at Tandragee.

The Officials and the Club extend their sympathy to Dario’s family and partner at this saddest of times.

Guy Martin Crashes Out of 2017 Tandragee 100 Superbike Race – No Injuries.

Guy Martin’s return to the road racing scene took an early spill at the 2017 Tandragee 100 when his Honda collided with that of fellow racer, Paul Jordan, at Marlacoo Corner, on the opening lap of the Superbike Race.

Most importantly neither rider was hurt and as the photographs show it turned into probably the most amicable spill ever with the two guys sitting up, having a chat and a cup of tea.

Paul Jordan even found the light hearted side of the crash a short time later on his Twitter Feed.

Support the Sport - Buy a Program!

Well today unfortunately the weather forecasts could not have been more wrong. For at least the last week the forecast was overcast, but dry. That was wrong it was overcast and wet

The day did start off dry and we got a couple of races before the mizzle started. The problem is it never stopped and as the day went on, it got harder right up to the point where there were reports coming in (via Twitter) of standing water on sections of the course.

This was the forecast for the hour following the Senior Support Race :

2017 Tandragee 100 Weather

The deteriorating weather conditions and a race incident (no further details known at this stage) – just at the end of the Senior Support Race brought the days events to an end – before we could have a SuperSports race and the days feature race – The Tandragee 100.

Most importantly I wish a speedy recovery to the rider involved in the Race Incident.

The Results of the days completed races are as follows :
