Iron Butt Association : Circuit of Ireland

According to Wikipedia : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Butt_Association

The Iron Butt Association (IBA) is a US-based organization dedicated to endurance motorcycle riding with a claim of over 60,000 members worldwide who tout themselves as the “World’s Toughest Riders.” One of its more popular slogans is “The World Is Our Playground.”

The IBA does have membership in a traditional sense. There are monthly newsletters sent to subscribed members. There are no mandatory yearly dues, although members can voluntarily pay an annual fee to become a premiere member. Premiere members receive occasional news and information from the IBA staff, early notice of some events, additional chances to enter some events, discounted entry fees for some events, and access to special areas of the web-based discussion board.

The IBA is a loose-knit organization with only one way to earn membership: ride one of the several rides the IBA certifies.

All that sounds pretty accurate. You can check out the official IBA Websites here :

Iron Butt Association Web Page : http://www.ironbutt.com

Iron Butt Association UK Web Page : https://www.ironbutt.co.uk/w3/index.php

Iron Butt Association Ireland Web Page : http://www.ibaireland.org

It was this bit that got me : ‘with only one way to earn membership : ride one of the several rides the IBA Certifies.’

Carole Nash East Coast Racing Festival : 9th – 10th September 2017 at Killalane

East Coast Motorcycling Club : Press Release :

The East Coast Motorcycling Club is delighted to announce that they are running 2017’s Irish road race finale. The circuit previously run as Killalane road races, which was the traditional road race season closer, is now the Carole Nash East Coast Racing Festival. Following a brief sabbatical in 2016, this new Killalane circuit race will take place this year on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th September 2017.

The new East Coast Motorcycling Club was formed in 2016 following the cancellation of the Killalane Road Races last year, with a view to ensuring this fantastic annual motorcycle racing event, held since 1984, was retained as the finale on the Irish road race calendar.

This two day road racing festival kicks off with practice races on Saturday, followed by two of the first official races, which includes two non-championship races for 125’s and a 600cc race in memory of Darren Lindsay.

On Sunday 10th a packed programme of ten races for Junior and Senior Support classes, Classics, Supertwins, 400’s / 250’s, 600’s and Open Superbike Classes.

This makes for a fantastic day’s road racing on this famous 3.6mile southern Irish road race circuit. Past winners over the 32 years of the event reads like a who’s who of Irish motorcycle racing including the legendary Joey Dunlop and his brother Robert and the late great Flying Finn, local boy Martin Finnegan. More recently it’s been Ryan Farquhar, with the Dunlop brothers William and Michael.

Guy Martin Crashes Out of 2017 Tandragee 100 Superbike Race – No Injuries.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mW6Z_zWcwE4&w=560&h=315]

Guy Martin’s return to the road racing scene took an early spill at the 2017 Tandragee 100 when his Honda collided with that of fellow racer, Paul Jordan, at Marlacoo Corner, on the opening lap of the Superbike Race.

Most importantly neither rider was hurt and as the photographs show it turned into probably the most amicable spill ever with the two guys sitting up, having a chat and a cup of tea.

Paul Jordan even found the light hearted side of the crash a short time later on his Twitter Feed.

Support the Sport - Buy a Program!

Well today unfortunately the weather forecasts could not have been more wrong. For at least the last week the forecast was overcast, but dry. That was wrong it was overcast and wet

The day did start off dry and we got a couple of races before the mizzle started. The problem is it never stopped and as the day went on, it got harder right up to the point where there were reports coming in (via Twitter) of standing water on sections of the course.

This was the forecast for the hour following the Senior Support Race :

2017 Tandragee 100 Weather
2017 Tandragee 100 Weather

The deteriorating weather conditions and a race incident (no further details known at this stage) – just at the end of the Senior Support Race brought the days events to an end – before we could have a SuperSports race and the days feature race – The Tandragee 100.

Most importantly I wish a speedy recovery to the rider involved in the Race Incident.

The Results of the days completed races are as follows :
