Oliver’s Mount Barry Sheene Classic 2020 :
Although not part of the Irish / Northern Irish / IOM Calendar, and therefore not usually or easily covered by TBNI.Blog, Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough has some great road racing events of its own.
And the good news is one of these events is this weekend! Yep that’s right, there is some real life actual road racing this weekend!
Isle of Wight Road Race : The Diamond Races – Coming October 2021
The Diamond Races is set to take place on a 12.4 mile-long course in the south of the Isle of Wight.
Shining a spotlight on the Island’s natural beauty, the road-race boasts a course through the villages of Chale, Kingston, Shorwell and Brighstone as well as a fast five-mile coastal stretch along the Military Road.
The new race meeting will be run under the strict event regulations stipulated by the sports’ governing body, the ACU (Auto Cycle Union), through which all UK motorcycle sport is administered.
With road safety at the heart of the Diamond Races, the organisers will strive to highlight the paramount importance of safe road use, with attention paid to the safety of riders, spectators and officials, whilst incorporating a strategy to promote road safety.
This event has been developed in lockstep with the local Isle of Wight council and experts from the motorcycle racing fraternity, and both the Diamond Races team and the Isle of Wight council are excited to confirm the planned road race event will take place from in October 2021, with two practice days on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by the time-trial feature races staged on a Saturday.

MCUI UC MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE STATEMENT UPDATE ON COVID 19 RESUMPTION OF MCUI UC COMPETITION 23rd JULY 2020
Basically we can go racing again!
The Directors of the MCUI UC (the Management Committee) wish to update all our licence holders, clubs and members of the current situation regarding a return to competition as the NI Executive are easing restrictions on an increasingly frequent basis.
We have received permission from the Department for Communities and Sport NI to resume competitive motorcycle racing again, including spectators (as long as they can be controlled).
This is extremely welcome news. However, it is vitally important that everyone complies with the social distancing and hygiene measures outlined in our guidance document (click here) and track and trace protocols.
Event promoters will be required to complete an event specific COVID 19 Risk Assessment that outlines the measures they will put in place to respond to these exceptional circumstances.
The MCUI UC would like to thank everyone at SportNI, Department for Communities and NI Sports Forum for their assistance during this emergency.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding in these extraordinary times, we are making progress together, but remember please, stay safe.

Oliver’s Mount Racing Ltd. in conjunction with 243 Road Racing Association are delighted to announce that road racing is scheduled to go ahead for 2020.
Due to ongoing global coronavirus pandemic, the organisers have been forced to reschedule events, but now we can announce two action-packed three-day weekend events in 2020.
The Barry Sheene Classic was due to take place on the 25/26th July, this has now been rescheduled to the 14/15/16th August and will now be a three-day bonanza.
The hugely popular Gold Cup will remain on the 11/12/13th September as per our calendar set out at the start of the season, but now also extended to a three-day meeting!
Each meeting will have three thrilling days of road racing action, practice and qualifying on Friday, with two full days of racing on Saturday and Sunday.
Behind the scenes, Oliver’s Mount Racing Ltd have worked tirelessly to ensure road racing continues in 2020, and now with the full backing of Scarborough Borough Council, plus working in partnership with the ACU we can reveal our exciting news, Director Eddie Roberts added, “I’m delighted to reveal our exciting plans for Oliver’s Mount. We’ve been forced to delay the calendar, but now to have two 3-days meetings is brilliant news. More time on track on Friday will allow the riders to get back up to speed, and two full days of racing is unprecedented at Oliver’s. We must thank the local council and ACU for their support”.
“We are extremely excited to unveil our plans for the second half of 2020. We are proud to say that all our partners, Suzuki UK, RST, Arai, Bennetts, and Ashcourt’s are fully behind us and are extremely excited to be a part of the new three-day events at Oliver’s Mount.”
“However, we are in constant communication with the ACU, plus the local council and we will abide by any government restrictions which may come into effect later in the year. It goes without saying the safety of our supporters, teams, and riders must come before anything else.”
“Further information and details will follow in the coming weeks as only a limited number of pre-sold tickets will be available. There will be further restrictions for riders/entrants and paddock movement/occupancy. However, we are making plans in line with government and ACU guidelines.”
Current day/weekend/season tickets will be valid and tickets in limited numbers will be available from our partners Duke Marketing. We would like to assure our supporters if the event does not go-ahead full refunds will be made.

2021 Southern 100 Dates :
It seems to me that the entire 2020 so far has been spent posting about events being cancelled – and to be fair the entire 2020 so far has been spent posting about events being cancelled!
So, without further ado here is some good news. The Provisional Dates for the 2021 Southern 100 events have been announced.
Southern 100 Racing are extremely grateful to our Title Sponsors Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, Blackford Financial Services and Silicone Engineering Racing who are carrying forward their 2020 support to next year, similarly our race sponsors have intimated that their much-valued sponsorship will be in place for 2021.

2020 Armoy Road Races Cancelled :
Armoy Road Races have now announced that their 2020 Road Races have been cancelled. This was the last Northern Irish event left on the calendar and given that all Irish Nationals have already declared that their events have been cancelled – we are now left with the fact that we will not see road racing on the island of Ireland in 2020.
I know that Cookstown and the North West 200 have hinted at dates towards the very end of summer to hold their events I think we need to be realistic and accept that there will be no road racing in 2020.
The Isle of Man still have the Classic TT and Manx GP on the calendar but honestly I wouldn’t be making too many plans. This ongoing coronavirus pandemic will continue to disrupt for the foreseeable future and I think we need to accept that 2021 is going to be our next opportunity to go racing.
One thing is for sure though, given how critical 2020 was shaping up to be for many events 2021 is really going to need the support of every spectator, fan, sponsor, team…
Armoy Road Races – Bayview Hotel Race of Legends 24th & 25th July 2020
In view of current extension to the ‘stay at home’ restrictions relating to the Coronavirus public health crisis and the advice from the sport’s governing body, it is with great regret that the Directors and Chairman of Armoy Motorcycle Road Racing Club Limited have agreed that the Armoy Road Races and Bayview Hotel Race of Legends, due to take place on 24th & 25th July, will unfortunately be cancelled for 2020.
Throughout the course of the last few weeks, we had continued to plan for our race in the event that restrictions could be lifted or relaxed. However, in the light of the recent review by local government and the ongoing economic impact on everyone, we believe that cancelling our event until 2021, is in the best interest of all concerned.
We would like to extend our thanks to all our sponsors, not least our title sponsor the Bayview Hotel, for their commitment to Armoy again in 2020 and for their understanding of our decision to cancel this year’s event. We send them all our very best wishes in these difficult and uncertain times.
We apologise for any disruption this cancellation may cause to those of you who have made travel plans to come to Armoy but we do hope to see you all again in the near future.

2020 Skerries 100 Cancelled :
The 2020 Skerries 100 Road Races have been cancelled. The press release from the club is below.
Following confirmation from our governing body Motorcycling Ireland (SC), advising that “all events are cancelled” “for the foreseeable future”. We have taken the decision to cancel the Skerries 100 in 2020.
Loughshinny Motorcycle Supporters Club acknowledge it takes a huge effort from many individuals and groups to organise and run our event. Our local community and the wider road race community are our biggest concern at this difficult time. In both communities, we have people that come from all walks of life, people who could in the coming weeks, be working on the front line or indeed have their lives severely impacted due to this current crisis. Our thoughts are with you all.
We thank everyone that made the 2019 Country Crest Skerries 100 such a success and we look forward to your continued support, working with us to make the 75th anniversary Skerries 100 in 2021 even bigger and better.

Yet another motorsport event falls victim to spiralling costs, increased Health and Safety requirements and ultimately lack of funding.
At this rate only the big players such as Formula 1, and Moto GP will survive and we will be stuck with what YouTube reminds us of our local events, when motorsports were there for all, to be attended and enjoyed by all.
The Club want the event back for 2018 – I really hope that happens, but unfortunately I see this as another step on the slippery slope to the end of local motorsports. At least thanks to these ever increasing Health and Safety Standards we will all be absolutely safe, contained in our life preserving bubbles, I wonder what the view will be like though, hopefully not too bright as that could damage our retinas! H&S will need to look at that!
