2018 Vauxhall International Race Day Results & Timings (Saturday 19th May 2018)

2018 North West 200
2018 North West 200

Saturday Race Day – the big day for the annual NW200 and what a day it was.  The weather forecast had promised to be a scorcher and guess what – even for Northern Ireland it delivered!

Thursday’s racing had already been a massive success with no major incidents and all three races running their full distance with real world class racing on display.  Saturday promised another 5 races but could it deliver on what Thursday had already given us?

Well the short answer is yes!  The weather was glorious, a bit breezy, but all that really did was hide the sunburn!  The racing was outstanding and with only one red flag on the first lap of the final race – of which those involved are fine.

The standing of racing was fantastic and the (reported) crowds of 120,000 people loved it!

Glen Irwin was dishing out the lessons on how to ride a superbike, taking 2 wins in the class, meaning he had 3 in a row at the NW200, remembering he took the 2017 Feature Race in fantastic style.  Joey Thompson – a new crowd favourite missed out on taking a Supertwin win being piped at the final Juniper Hill Chicane, it was breath taking stuff and an amazing example of how good the NW200 can be if blessed with a little bit of good fortune and weather.  Really well done to all those involved.

If you missed it the BBC still have the entire day available for viewing – but I don’t know how long it will be available for – find it here :  https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/northern-ireland/43801720

And let’s not forget Jonathan Rea popped along for a private lap, evening stopping to say hello a few times!

Iron Butt Association : Circuit of Ireland

According to Wikipedia : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Butt_Association

The Iron Butt Association (IBA) is a US-based organization dedicated to endurance motorcycle riding with a claim of over 60,000 members worldwide who tout themselves as the “World’s Toughest Riders.” One of its more popular slogans is “The World Is Our Playground.”

The IBA does have membership in a traditional sense. There are monthly newsletters sent to subscribed members. There are no mandatory yearly dues, although members can voluntarily pay an annual fee to become a premiere member. Premiere members receive occasional news and information from the IBA staff, early notice of some events, additional chances to enter some events, discounted entry fees for some events, and access to special areas of the web-based discussion board.

The IBA is a loose-knit organization with only one way to earn membership: ride one of the several rides the IBA certifies.

All that sounds pretty accurate. You can check out the official IBA Websites here :

Iron Butt Association Web Page : http://www.ironbutt.com

Iron Butt Association UK Web Page : https://www.ironbutt.co.uk/w3/index.php

Iron Butt Association Ireland Web Page : http://www.ibaireland.org

It was this bit that got me : ‘with only one way to earn membership : ride one of the several rides the IBA Certifies.’

Guy Martin looking focused on the 2017 Honda Fireblade – Practice Session 30th May 2017 – Isle of Man TT Races

The weather has dominated the news at the 2017 Isle of Man TT Races so far.  Why?  Because it has been awful.  We should have had practice on Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday so far.  However due to a combination of rain, fog and rain and fog we have only had a one complete session which was Tuesday’s (30/05/2017).

The weather on Tuesday was glorious and to be honest bar a bit of a wash out on Sunday all day, the weather for some reason really has it in for the races at the minute as it has a tendancy to close in towards the late afternoon and evening.  Wednesday for examole was a glorious morning, come the late afternoon it started to close in and only one lap of the session was completed before the organsisers called the session off.

The weather on Wednesday 31st May 2017 morning - a glorious day!
The weather on Wednesday 31st May 2017 morning – a glorious day!
The weather on Wednesday 31st May 2017 evening - no wonder the session needed to be cancelled!
The weather on Wednesday 31st May 2017 evening – no wonder the session needed to be cancelled!

Here is a terrifying statistic…

  • We are now 1,539 practice @iom_tt laps behind last year (2016) or over 58,000 miles of a difference – almost 2.5 trips around the Earth!

And here are some 2016 v 2017 figures to show how far behind we currently are :

Qualifying Laps :

  • Total : (2016) 1641 / (2017) – 528
  • Difference -1113 laps on 2016
  • Superbike : (2016) 556 / (2017) – 196
  • Supersports : (2016) 549 / (2017) – 183
  • Superstocks : (2016) 89 / (2017) – 28
  • Lightweights : (2016) 167 / (2017) – 48
  • Sidecars : (2016) 270 / (2017) – 73

The good news is the weather looks for tomorrow and the schedule has been revised to get a lot of action in over the coming weekend.

Check out the Revised Schedule Here for 3rd – 6th June 2017.

Thursday Night Action at the 2017 NW200 Event
Thursday Nights Racing at the 2017 NW200 saw some amazing racing – really putting the event back on the Road Racing Map after a couple of tragic and difficult years.

Apologies for it being a bit late, but sometimes you just get busy.

The poor weather at the 2017 Isle of Man TT Race Meeting has given me the opportunity to get caught up on a few things I had let slip.  You’ll be glad to hear the next gallery will be from the Isle of Man!

So if you are over at the 2017 Isle of Man TT Races you are right about now probably wishing for the rain to stop!  Don’t worry it is going to – tomorrow is to be a lovely day.

However in the meantime to satisfy your needs for some motorbikes here is my gallery from the 2017 NW200 Thursday Race Session… (You’ll see it was soaked in glorious sunshine!)

Photos for this session were taken from the area of the Juniper Hill Chicane – maining looking down the Coast Road.

Tandragee 100 Road Races Photo Gallery : 22nd April 2017

So not too many photographs from me from this meeting, for two reasons, the first being a bit of a gripe of mine of an otherwise awesome meeting – The Grandstand.

I paid for a seat in the Grandstand just after the Start / Finish and had a cracking view up the road, until they over filled it and then everyone stood in front of the seats so this is the view I had from the Grandstand…

Tandragee 100 - The Grandstand - But where is the track?
Tandragee 100 – The Grandstand – But where is the track?

Just by way of comparison here is the view I should have had, the view I did have before they decided to put more people in and not put them on a seat in the Grandstand – it surely to goodness defeats the purpose!

Please Tandragee 100 – if you read this regulate the Grandstand – make it fair for everyone, it was the only negative I could mention from an otherwise great event – and I wasn’t the only one it affected.

Tandragee 100 - How the view should have been!

Breitling Avenger II GMT Unboxing

Everyone loves a nice watch.  Let’s admit it.  Every time you walk past a jewellers that sells watches you will always have a look in the window and their will always be a watch or a brand that catches your eye.

For me that brand is Breitling.  They are big and bold, with a modern, and if you look back over history, a reasonably timeless design.  There are a few examples to that rule of course, for example the Breitling Emergency II with yellow dial.  Coming in past the £12,000 mark this watch comes with the added piece of mind that if you get into a bit of bother any where on this planet the GPS tracking on the watch with dispatch rescuers to you, hopefully saving the day and you…

That is not the watch I bought – however it is so damn cool!  If you are reading this, enjoying it and thinking, ‘that guy needs one of these’ I’ll be all to happy to accept!

Motorcycle Live 2015 – Gallery

With the imminent release of ticket sales for Motorcycle Live 2016 at the NEC Birmingham I thought I would upload my Gallery from 2015.

MCL 2016 will run from Saturday 19 November 2016 – Sunday 27 November 2016 at the NEC, Birmingham so get those dates in your diary now, and if you are travelling by air, get the tickets booked sooner rather than later to make use of the cheapest fares!

MCL is a show that I make an annual trip to from Northern Ireland, personally I think it is a great show with loads to see and do, which is hopefully reflected in the photos.  In 2015 there was a demo from ArenaCross, which was outstanding given the space these guys were working with, enough that I came straight out of the show and booked tickets for the Belfast show.

Enjoy the Gallery…
