21 Mar, 2013

Sony has released Playstation 3 firmware version 4.40.

The firmware doesn’t come with any specific details, although it does seem to fix the stability problems with connecting online which seem to have been occurring over the last few days.

You can download the firmware via your PS3 using the system update option.

The ‘Traditional’ Mournes – Newcastle and Up…

Route : Traditional Mournes.

Distance : 60 km

Time : 1.25 hours with few stops (longer to factor in meals and stops for photos / walks etc.)

Bike Restrictions : Any bike should cope, good well maintained roads throughout.

A short time ago I posted a little write up about the ‘Alternate’ Mournes.  The idea being to show people the other side of the Mournes that are often missed out by visitors, whether on a bike or four wheels.  The ‘Alternate’ Mournes takes visitors from Newry, Co. Down and goes up, it takes in places like Slieve Gullion, Meigh, and Forkhill, places that are often avoided to their shady pasts.  The ‘Traditional’ Mournes takes people from Newcastle, Co. Down and then up, and as you can see from the map below it takes in places such as Tollymore Forest Park, Spelga Dam and Silvent Valley.

Unboxing : Casio G-Shock GX56-4ER – The King G (Orange)

In the G-Shock Watch World this huge G-Shock is affectionately known as the ‘King-G.’ And that it a title it rightly deserves.

At the time of writing this is currently the largest offering in the G-Shock range with dimensions of approximately 55.5mm x 53.6mm x 17.5mm (H x W x D).

This watch is truly a monster, and also my second GX-56 in my collection.

The first one I acquired being a GX56-1AER, which is identical expect in the colour scheme, namely black.

This version, the GX56-4ER is much more ‘in your face’ sporting a vibrant orange colour scheme that simply can not be hidden.
If you don’t like people checking out your watch from distances up to 200m maybe you’d be better opting for the black version!

The watch itself has all the features you’d expect now from G-Shock, 200m water resitance, shock resistance, date, time, alarm, stop watch, world times… and the list goes on. The is also an atomic edition of the watch so time zones and BST settings will never be an issue again.

Prices vary wildly for this watch so if you want one keep an eye out, I picked mine up brand new for £81.00 and have seen them listed for up to £200 for the non atomic variant!

The ‘Alternate Mournes’ – A Tour To Consider

The Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland are by no means strange to bikers from across the world.  Just look at Newcastle, Co. Down’s Main Street on any given Sunday (or any given sunny day) and you will see rows of bikes lined up outside the Town Hall, awaiting or having just returned from a zip through the Mournes.  Look across the street at anyone of the Coffee Shops or ice-cream shops and you’ll find the riders of said bikes enjoying a much needed treat, or getting the energy levels up before starting off on their journey.

Bikes from across the country and beyond congregate here, the riders all united by their two wheeled machines.  And it is from here that the journey begins.

Many bikes have left the coast at Newcastle and ascended into the mountains, where well maintained roads twist upwards and onwards.  The sights are enough to guarantee a return by any visitor, especially on a bright sunny day, the landscape here is truly breath taking.

But there is another side to the Mournes, after all this is the Kingdom of Mourne, not simply a one way route.  However this other side of the mountain range is effectively untouched, but it is no less beautiful.  There are sights on the other sode of the Mournes that will leave you breathless as quickly, maybe even more so, than anywhere else on the range.

Most riders go Newcastle and up, may I suggest that you try Newry and up.

2011 Smart ForTwo (451) Rear Indicator (Signal) Bulb Replacement :

This process can be applied to any bulb located in the rear cluster.

TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC

This noise coupled with an extremely fast flashing indicator normally means a blown bulb.

So on this occasion it was the rear nearside that had decided it had served its time.

HOW TO : ACF-50 Application [Video Guide]

ACF-50
ACF-50

I thought this would be a good potential way to attack, but not necessarily kill two birds with one stone.  I recently purchased some ACF-50 (Anti Corrosion Formula 50) to treat and protect my new bike for the rest of the winter, from the rest of the winter, and after much reading ACF-50 seems to be the product to do that!

Here is how I have described it on my YouTube Video…

Casio Edifice EF-552PB-1A2VEF – Unboxing

So personal choice of watch is the Casio G-Shock, however I am partial to the Edifice range also. The Edifice range feels more formal and therefore may be more suitable for certain circumstances.

An Edifice for example may give a better first impression at a job interview than say a bright yellow G-Shock, then again the G-Shock could actually say a lot more about you than a metal banded watch. Who knows? Who cares? Let’s just settle for they are a different style of watch that may suit you sometime when you fancy a different style of watch!
